The Department of Health of Lorca manages the adoption of 242 animals from an alleged crime of animal abuse (10/11/2020)

The Lorca City Council has participated in this adoption and 8 ducks and 2 geese are already in the Doña Inés pond and 2 ducks and some thirty ornamental birds in the Diego Pallarés Pediatric Park. The Councilor for Health of the City of Lorca, José Ángel Ponce, has reported the adoption of 242 animals from the operation 'Golden Pheasant' carried out by the Civil Guard and in which municipal veterinarians have cooperated. Ponce explained that "the City Council of Lorca, through the Department of Health, has managed the adoption of 242 animals that were in poor hygienic sanitary conditions in a farm located in the district of Purias". The mayor has detailed that "in total there have been 15 dogs, 2 cats, 19 rabbits, 16 guinea pigs, 17 ducks, 4 geese, 164 ornamental birds (parakeets, lovebirds, nymphs or kakarikis), 4 peacocks and a golden pheasant.

of animals to which we have found a new home in which they will be cared for and treated as they deserve and complying with the sanitary measures and responsible animal ownership established by the Law ". "Most of the animals have been adopted by individuals and, from the Department of Health, we have carried out a delivery record to control and supervise their care.

It should also be noted that dogs and cats have already been microchipped and vaccinated and the birds, after inclusion in their new habitat, have been subjected to a deworming treatment ". Ponce Díaz has highlighted that "in addition, the Lorca City Council has participated in this adoption and 8 ducks and 2 geese are already in the Doña Inés pond and in the Diego Pallarés Cachá Pediatric Park, next to the Plaza de Toros, they have and at his house 2 ducks in the pond and, in the aviary, about thirty parakeets and lovebirds as well as nymphs and kakarikis ". The Councilor for Health has insisted that "for this government team the responsible ownership of animals is very important, we must be aware that animals need care and we must be responsible enough to make a decision before acquiring them." "Precisely, as these Christmas dates approach, we would like to remember that animals are not a toy and if you do not have enough space at home or time to take care of them, it is better to avoid their acquisition, since there are two deficiencies in their care and abandonment actions punishable by both financial sanctions and jail time ". José Ángel Ponce recalled that "proof of the importance, awareness and concern that the City Council of Lorca has about this issue is the beginning of the constitution of the first Municipal Board of Animal Welfare that today we have announced together with various entities and animal groups of our municipality ".
