IU Lorca demands the recovery of the Agrarian Chamber for the social, economic and cultural impulse of the city center (17/11/2020)

The councilor of this formation, Gloria Martín, has also regretted that the socio-liberal government of PSOE and C's, has not convened a single time the Sectorial Council of the Historic District that promised to reactivate, nor has it carried out the PEPRICH or the Plan Strategic Revitalization and Recovery of the Historic Center, tools that were considered "urgent" in the electoral program of Diego José MateosThe councilor for Izquierda Unida-Verdes in the Lorca City Council, Gloria Martín, has asked the municipal government team of PSOE and C's to promote the recovery and commissioning of the Lorca residents of the old Agrarian Chamber. It is a centenary modernist-style building located on Corredera street, in the heart of the city, whose rehabilitation works, still unfinished, began in 2015.During its time in the opposition, the PSOE demanded on numerous occasions the "enhancement" of this property, owned by the autonomous communities, as well as the concretion of its use, which, according to Law 5/2008, of November 13 , by which the Agrarian Chamber of the Region of Murcia is extinguished, should be used, in principle, "to fulfill purposes and services of agricultural interest." However, Martín explained that there are precedents in some places in Spain where these assets have been deactivated in favor of the municipalities, which have allocated them to different uses.In fact, almost a year ago, and after a proposal made by the spokesman for the Municipal Group of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Pedro Sosa, the local government team undertook to modify the "specifications" and "requirements" for use of the building.

However, "the months continue to pass, the property is still closed and has not been finished rehabilitating and we do not know anything about its future," said Martín.In this sense, the mayor recalled that the recovery of this building is an old aspiration of the merchants of the city center, “with whom we share the idea that its reopening would play a fundamental role in the economic and social recovery that the city needs.

central Corredera street and its surroundings ”.Martín also regretted the paralysis of the Sectorial Council of the Historic Center of Lorca, which Mateos has not convened even once since he was mayor and that “we need to reactivate to study and implement initiatives that are focused on the development and promotion of social, cultural, economic and tourist activity in Lorca ”.

On this issue, the councilor for the United Left rescued some statements by Diego José Mateos when he was running for mayor in 2019.

"In pre-electoral campaign Mateos demanded the urgent call of this sector council and complained that the PP breached its regulations, which requires this forum to meet at least every semester.

In this regard, he pointed out that the municipal government team is doing “exactly the same” that it criticized when it was in the opposition.

After 17 months in the local government, Mateos has not carried out either the PEPRICH or the Strategic Plan for the Revitalization and Recovery of the Historic Center, tools that he considered "urgent" in his electoral program and which the current mayor referred to then as "the rays of that SUN so that Lorca can shine again ”.

"Over our old town, the historical heritage, its traditional commerce and its tourist potential, only black clouds are looming," said Martín, who regretted that PSOE and C's have not known how to mark a turning point that, in this matter, differentiates them of what their predecessors did ”.
