The PP proposes to improve the five roundabouts that regulate traffic from Caravaca by installing representative images of traditional Lorca sectors (18/11/2020)

The aim of the initiative is to aesthetically enhance this gateway to the urban area, through which thousands of vehicles pass daily, so that a better image of Lorca is offered, replacing the current empty and abandoned with icons of the townThe councilors of Local Development and Citizen Participation in the city of Lorca for the Popular Party, Ángel Meca and Mari Huertas García, have proposed this morning the launch of a battery of improvement actions for the aesthetic improvement of the entrance to our city from the Caravaca road.

It is, specifically, to allocate each of the five existing roundabouts in said access to pay tribute to productive sectors and ancestral traditions of our municipal term.In this way, from the PP it is proposed that the large roundabout that connects the Caravaca road (RM-711) with the intersection of Torrealvilla and Zarzadilla de Totana, host the installation of a sculpture, or series of representations, characteristic of the traditions and customs of the high districts.

We are talking about a strategic place, since it is de facto the gateway to our highlands.

For the choice of the image, we propose that an ideas contest open to the free participation of each and every one of the people who want to contribute their project, counting on the collaboration of the neighborhood groups of these councils, as well as with the association "Espartaria".

So,We would achieve the double objective of showing a better image to the people who access Lorca from Caravaca and of offering a tribute to the most deeply rooted customs of the highlands. The next roundabout we propose that it house a figure that serves as a tribute to one of the artisan sectors that has the most tradition in our region, as is the case of pottery.

It is a tradition with more than deep roots in Lorca's history, since it dates back to prehistory, with its beginnings as a purely economic activity at the dawn of the Iberian era.

Pottery is marked in the local collective imagination as part of the "Lorca Brand", and its professionals have managed to get people to talk about our city at an international level, with a maximum level of quality and specialization in the sector.

We consider, therefore, that the location of a large symbolic piece, such as the classic bridal jug,It would improve the image of neglect and abandonment that this enclave currently presents, and it would offer a visual reference of Lorca's artisan heritage to those who travel this road. The third of the roundabouts, which is identical in size to the second, since they are practically twin traffic regulation infrastructures, we propose that it be used to install the popular steam boiler, known as the "train machine", which, in reality , was an integrated part of the leather treatment system in the tanning sector.

This element is fully rehabilitated and recovered thanks to the management carried out at the time by the Popular Party, and remains stored in municipal offices, so we propose that it be exposed again, occupying a place that has a very high traffic density .This battery of improvements also includes the recovery, rehabilitation and installation of a piece that has become traditional within the industrial sector of Lorca, specifically in the field of tanning, as is the case with drums for the chemical treatment of leather .

We propose that one of these pieces, or a representation of them, be located in the newly created roundabout between the emblematic facilities of Talleres Olcina and La Comarca, the fourth of those existing in this section.Regarding the fifth roundabout, the one that connects with the Puentes reservoir road, we request that the surface be covered with artificial grass, and the presence of floral ornamentation be reinforced as far as possible, following the same line aesthetic improvement than in the rest of the aforementioned roundabouts.
