IU Lorca will demand direct aid for the hotel industry in plenary session and encourages the sector to mobilize (20/11/2020)

Gloria Martín has regretted that the mayor, Diego José Mateos, has not expressed before the regional president a single brave and vindictive gesture in defense of a sector that thousands of families eat in Lorca, that he has not yet announced municipal aid and that has limited a pitiful "we have been left out by tenths", as if this were a competitive examination or a sports competition Regarding the decision of the regional government to maintain the closure of the hotel business in Lorca due to the COIVD19 crisis, the councilor for Izquierda Unida-Verdes in the City of Lorca, Gloria Martín, today regretted that everything to expect from the mayor, Diego José Mateos, be a pitiful "we have been left out by tenths", as if this were "some competitive exams or a sports competition". Martín recalled that the only summary of Mateos' intervention yesterday in his telematic meeting with the regional president, Fernando López Miras, is the one he made himself in a press release issued by the City Council, in which "we have not found not a single brave and vindictive gesture in defense of a sector that thousands of families eat in Lorca ". The councilor of IU-Verdes has criticized that Mateos has not publicly raised Miras "not a single demand on the aid promised by the regional government and that, theoretically, they were going to be published on November 6." "The only thing our mayor does is to once again point out the citizens as responsible for the contagions, without announcing the slightest municipal rescue plan for a sector that is being doomed to ruin," said Martín.

"Yesterday was the day to squeeze López Miras, and to announce that he, as mayor, is willing to do what the regional government does not want," said Martín. Therefore, the municipal group of Izquierda Unida-Verdes will take a motion to the municipal plenary session on the 30th in which they will ask that, within a maximum period of one month, the City Council publish a call for direct aid aimed at the sector, affected by the suspension or limitations to its activity imposed by state and regional regulations as a result of the COVID19 pandemic.

IU will propose that the total amount of these aid is, "starting and at least" 424,100 euros.

An amount that has already been released through two budgetary modifications and that is part of the "surplus" of the aid to the self-employed that IU managed to approve in the May plenary session. In its motion, IU will also urge the 25 councilors of the Corporation to demand from the Governing Council of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia the "immediate" call for non-refundable aid promised so that bars and restaurants can meet the expenses that the closure decreed by the autonomous community is assuming them. Martín has also encouraged workers affected by the closure to "mobilize" because "social pressure is the only language that some politicians understand." In this sense, he has asked for "courage" to the most representative local associations of the sector in Lorca, of which he has said that now they have the opportunity to "stand up" and show that they are not willing to remain "impassive" in the face of inaction and failure to comply with the promises that the administrations have made to their clients
