Caritas and the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul unite in the face of poverty in Lorca (23/11/2020)

With the aim of improving and expanding the accompaniment of people in a situation or risk of social exclusion in Lorca, the Daughters of Charity of San Vicente de Paúl and Cáritas have signed a collaboration agreement.

In this way, in the facilities that the nuns have in Lorca, Caritas will join efforts to carry out, together with the nuns, actions focused on the comprehensive care and promotion of children, young people and women alone or with children.Within the framework of this collaboration, it has been agreed that, with respect to the accompaniment of childhood, the care that the Daughters of Charity were developing in Lorca, within the Alca Project, in the San José Center for Early Childhood Education of Calasanz.

Cáritas will assume the hiring of the staff of the childhood project that, to date, the Daughters of Charity had, as well as the care of children and young people in a situation or risk of social exclusion who benefited from it.

The children and families that Caritas already cared for in the San Pedro neighborhood are included in this space.

The accompaniment to childhood will be carried out through school reinforcement activities; with inclusive leisure, both weekly and during holiday periods, which encourages the enjoyment of free time in a healthy way;with family educational workshops; Psychological Support; and transfer of values.

For all this, professionals who work with children will be trained in the Christian sphere and in the Vincentian charism.Another objective is the promotion of women, therefore, Caritas will carry out actions for the empowerment, personal growth and citizen participation of women, initiating a process by which women acquire or reinforce their capacities, strategies and leadership, both individually and collectively. In addition, Caritas will assist people in exclusion with information on resources, guidance for social and labor inclusion, and coverage of basic needs of daily life. The new space provided by the Daughters of Charity of San Vicente de Paúl, the San José de Calasanz Early Childhood Education Center, will house these three Caritas social action programs for the city of Lorca. To date, Cáritas Diocese of Cartagena and the Daughters of Charity of San Vicente de Paúl converge in different social projects in Murcia, Cartagena, Águilas and Totana, where several of the sisters are integrated and collaborate with Cáritas in their childhood programs, training, employment and the homeless.
