| The University delivers to the City Council of Lorca the analysis and diagnosis study of the General Planning Plan of the municipality | The municipality of Lorca has the capacity to meet the urbanization needs of the next 20 years.

This is noted in the analysis and diagnosis of the General Planning Plan of the municipality that researchers from the UPCT Urban Research Laboratory have carried out.According to the document that they have already delivered to the Lorca city council, of the urban transformation forecasts made in 2004 to the present, there would be 42.7 million square meters of building space.

And it is that from the forecast that was made at the time, currently only 1.9 million square meters have been consolidated.Furthermore, the analysis reflects the urban modifications that have had to be made in Lorca as a result of the earthquakes of 2011, mainly in the neighborhoods of San Fernando and La Viña, "they have been urban regeneration actions that can be considered pioneering in the Region ", highlights Fernando García, one of the researchers.In the same way, all the transformations that the city has undergone, such as the orchard areas, the districts or those related to industrial activity, have been analyzed.The study 'Analysis and diagnosis of the PGMO of Lorca and proposal of urban and territorial development model for the future elaboration of the revision of the general plan of Lorca.' It is the result of the Specific Collaboration Agreement for R + D + i activities signed between the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and the City of Lorca, in 2018.The presentation of the analysis has been made by the mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, and the rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), Beatriz Miguel.The rector of the UPCT recalled that the UPCT is "the polytechnic university of the Region, we are willing to collaborate and establish relationships with the rest of the municipalities of the entire Region.

We have a School of Architecture where we have a very young human team and eager to work and very involved in the entire municipal and territorial urban development of the Region.

At the present time these synergies are very important.

"For his part, the mayor of Lorca explained that the work commissioned by the previous government team "will be the object of study and analysis by the municipal technical services and will culminate in its presentation to the Urban Planning Information Commission and will be made available to all municipal groups so that they know their conclusions and the proposed strategies on the Model of Urban and Territorial Development and general determinations for the future elaboration of the Update-adaptation of the General Plan of Lorca.

Likewise, the document will be disseminated for its general knowledge, since it is intended to be a participatory process and it will be sent to the CARM General Directorate of Urbanism ”.
