José Ángel Ponce: "There is an urgent need for the reinforcement of the health personnel in the Sutullena Emergency Department and also continuous private surveillance to avoid situations such as those that, unfortunately, have been generated this weekend in Águilas and that have also occurred in Lorca emergencies, since the absence of security personnel for several hours makes the toilets feel completely defenseless ". The Councilor for Health of the City of Lorca, José Ángel Ponce, has reiterated the need to reinforce the health staff of the SUAP of Sutullena and more security personnel. Ponce explained that "last Thursday, November 26, from the Department of Health of the City of Lorca we sent a letter to the regional manager of 061, Francisco Celdrán, with which we transferred our concern regarding the lack of health personnel and private security in the SUAP of Sutullena, which is also the one that registers the most attention in the entire Region.

" The mayor has detailed that "unfortunately, at dawn on Saturday, we had to regret that in the neighboring town of Águilas, specifically in the Primary Care Emergency Service of the Águilas Norte Health Center there was a serious altercation because the staff was attacked by an injured and very violent person ". "From the Lorca City Council we want to show our solidarity with the Águilas health personnel who suffered this attack while they were carrying out their health work and we also reiterate the need to reinforce the security personnel in the Sutullena Emergency Service because situations of insecurity and defenselessness are being generated for professionals and users ". Ponce Díaz has indicated that "due to the high healthcare pressure that our health personnel and our facilities bear, we have requested a meeting with the regional management of 061 in order to convey the need to implement new measures and allocate new resources to improve quality assistance received by users ". "We once again request the reinforcement of the Sutullena SUAP staff with the provision of a third full-time medical team, as well as extending the working day of the nursing staff assigned to triage work until 8:00 a.m., since at the moment only it provides service until 00:00 hours and, without going any further, in the neighboring municipality of Águilas, with a smaller population and notices, they do enjoy this reinforcement ". The Councilor for Health has shown that "regarding the UME service, it seems to us of extreme necessity that it be reinforced with more human and material resources since this service is shared with the municipalities of Totana, Aledo and Puerto Lumbreras and, in addition the suppression in 2010 of the interhospital mobile ICU, the Emergency Medical Unit also began to attend transfers between hospitals, in addition to emergency calls, not only from Lorca, but also from previous municipalities ". "It is evident that the only EMU that Lorca has is located outside our municipality for most of the day and this service must serve a population that, for the municipality of Lorca alone, covers more than 91,000 inhabitants spread over 1,676 square kilometers in size ". José Ángel Ponce has insisted on "the need to increase and strengthen the health staff and material resources in Health Area 3, as well as the security staff at the Rafael Méndez Hospital, the health centers and the Emergency Service of Sutullena ".
