The general director of Cultural Assets, Rafael Gómez, today visited the rehabilitation works that are carried out in the Cloister of the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen de Lorca, which have a grant of 750,000 euros, approved by the Governing Council at the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture, on November 19.This is an action that is part of the Master Plan for the Recovery of the Cultural Heritage of Lorca, whose purpose is to recover the historic buildings devastated by the 2011 earthquake, including the Claustro del Carmen, which was declared BIC in 2009.The total cost of the renovation amounts to 1,450,000 euros, co-financed by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the property's ownership.Up to now, rehabilitation works have already been carried out for an approximate amount of 900,000 euros that have allowed to carry out the consolidation of the corner vaults on the ground floor of the eastern group, and all the wooden and revoltón floors of all the floors of this panda.
On the other hand, the reconstruction of the north gang is quite advanced, since all the brick vaults have been rebuilt and now the roof structure is being fitted out, as well as the corner staircase.
The intervention project will continue later with the finishes.
