IU-Verdes Lorca requires a participatory Recovery Plan that opts for financing from European extraordinary funds (09/12/2020)

Gloria Martín assured that it is a unique opportunity to face, for example, the rehabilitation of the historic center of Lorca.

For this reason, he asked Diego José Mateos "to get to work now," as many mayors in this country are doing, so that Lorca can opt for these funds with the best guarantees through a "participatory" plan that counts "not only with those of always ", but with all citizens through social organizations The councilor for Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, has warned that the arrival of the European recovery fund for COVID-19 "is going to catch Lorca with his homework undone", as the PSOE municipal government team and C's, unlike what other municipalities are doing, "has not specified objectives or is working on plans or projects that may qualify for this loan." Martín recalled that Spain will obtain funding from the European Union worth up to 140,000 million euros to promote a Recovery Plan for its economy, which has ecological transition and urban regeneration as fundamental pillars. For the Izquierda Unida councilor, it is a "unique" opportunity to face, for example, the rehabilitation of the historic center of Lorca, which, inexplicably, was left out of the investments that were financed with a loan from the European Investment Bank of 185 million euros for the reconstruction of Lorca after the earthquakes of 2011. Martín has lamented the "paralysis" of the current local government team regarding this issue, and recalled that the mayor, Diego José Mateos, has not convened the Sectorial Council for the Empowerment of the Historic Center of Lorca "not once", giving samples of the "apathy" and "reluctance" that permeates all his municipal politics. The mayor of IU-Verdes also criticized that the regional government of PP and C's has forgotten "completely" the Project of Regional Interest (AIR) of the Historic Center that the regional president, Fernando López Miras described as "priority" in the campaign of the municipal elections of 2019, and to which later "not a single euro" was consigned in the 2020 regional budgets. For the IU-Verdes councilor, this shows the "null" interest of the PSOE, PP and C's for the recovery of the historic center of Lorca to the extent that none of these parties is showing a real commitment to promote a true regeneration in this environment. For this reason, Martín has asked the mayor "to get to work now" in the drafting of a local Recovery Plan that avails itself of funding from the European program 'Next Generation EU', "as many mayors in this country are doing ".

In this regard, he demanded that Mateos "shake off laziness" and make an effort for Lorca to opt "with the best guarantees" for these funds. The councilor of IU-Verdes, also claimed that the design of the plan "be participatory." "It is not good for us that this is dispatched unilaterally by the PSOE and C's socioliberal municipal government team or that it is circumscribed to the usual actors," said Martín, who urged Mateos to "count on the citizenship" through the social organizations, as promised when he was a mayoral candidate and has failed to comply to date.
