[IU-Verdes Lorca denounces the abolition of the taxi service for hemodialysis patients (10/12/2020)

| Gloria Mart n has criticized the decision of the Murcian Health Service that does not represent savings for the Administration and that, However, it will worsen the quality of the service and will deal a blow to the Taxi sector, economically very punished The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Mart n, has denounced that the Murcian Health Service (SMS) has suppressed the public taxi service for Lorca who need to travel by this means to receive treatment at the hemodialysis center Analysis located in La Viña.

The SMS has decided to gradually suspend, since last December 1, the aid that allowed patients to defray the cost of travel by taxi to replace it with a collective health transport service that will be paid for of the UTE formed by Ambulancias Mar Menor, Ambulancias Do Atl ntico and Ambulancias S nchez (two of them with the participation of the subsidiary of La Generala Orthem), and which was awarded the health transport of the Region of Murcia through a controversial 8-year contract for an amount of 300 million euros.

Mart n has regretted a decision that will mean a "worsening in the quality of the service" and will deal "a blow" to the taxi sector, economically "very punished".

"Until now, patients had the guarantee of compliance with the schedules and did not have to wait hours for a non-medicalized ambulance to complete its route," explained Mart n.

"These are patients with a delicate state of health who should not endure long waits when receiving their treatment," said the mayor of IU-Verdes, who expressed the discontent of these users, who were satisfied with the taxi service, "of which they have had no complaints in the years it has been operating." In Mart n's opinion, the SMS decision will not entail "any savings" for the Administration, as transport by ambulance is more expensive than by taxi, and neither does it have any advantage for patients.

, which now had a standardized, inclusive, comfortable and quality means of transport.

For all this, the councilor of IU-Verdes has asked the mayor of Lorca, Diego Jos Mateos, to raise his complaint to the Murcian Health Service Management for this decision that deepens the loss of quality of care for public health users and punishes taxi professionals in Lorca and the region.

In this regard, Mart n urged Mateos to demand the restitution of the aid so that hemodialysis patients can continue to pay for their trips by taxi.
