[Monumental biblical municipal nativity scene. Lorca 2020 (15/12/2020)

Despite the work inconveniences derived from the Covid pandemic, the Lorca Nativity Scene Association, in accordance with its founding principles: to spread and preserve the Christian and popular tradition of assembling nativity scenes at Christmas time, and making a human effort, has carried out the assembly of the municipal nativity scene, thanks to the collaboration between our association and the Lorca City Council, in order not to leave our city without the “monumental” nativity scene model that, For 23 years, it has been doing so that it is enjoyed and contemplated by the locals and the many visitors from other nearby towns and communities, at Christmas 2020. According to the artistic director: Jos Carlos G mez Fern ndez, the Bel n is structured in a set of integrated modules, which occupy the 36m 2 of the polystyrene platforms and mountains worked with polyethylene Aerosol extruded on a metallic warp framework, all worked in the workshop, to avoid as always damaging the monument in whose porticoed courtyard is articulated, the impressive river port and the spectacular lighting of m s of 100 spotlights, which enhance the 400 figures around the manger, the central axis of the nativity scene and around which the different mysteries of the Nativity of the Lord are articulated, with the scenographic peculiarity that the constructions are all from the period of Jesus and specifically contemporaries of Emperor Octavian Augustus, under whose mandate,Bethlehem was part of the Roman Empire. All the constructions have been investigated with documentation of the time and after an original creation process, with some buildings and architectures that try to avoid anachronisms, make this Great Bethlehem a reference within the federation of nativity scenes from Spain and for this reason it has received in the press the qualification of "The most monumental in the region", a meritorious title that last year won the first prize for nativity scenes in our autonomous community being visited for more than 30,000 people. The complex is articulated around 1st century Palestine, highlighting the towns of Nazareth and Bethlehem separated by Mount Carmel. Special mention deserves the great representation of the entrance of the Holy family to Egypt, fleeing the slaughter of the innocents decreed by Herod the Great. Despite the pandemic, this theme has been worked on by the technical workshop team, recreating the great river port of Edfu with its Egyptian and Phoenician ships, as well as the spectacular temple of Horus, the falcon god.

son of Osiris and Isis, which was built in 237 BC by Ptolemy III. Its walls served as a home for the god, but it was also organized inside "the feast of the beautiful encounter" in which once a year the goddess Hathor was seen with Horus in her sacred abode. The statue of the goddess was transported in a ceremony boat until it was met by Horus who was waiting for it in the temple. This procession is captured as the main scenography, for which all the ceremonial elements have been made (Egyptian car, jewels, sacred boat, feather dusters) and implemented the Egyptian heritage in some one hundred unique figures, made by the firm " Master craftsmen ”.
