The new facilities have been built on a 5,000 square meter plot next to the University Campus of Lorca, and this project is the result of the collaboration between the City of Lorca, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and the University of Murcia.
The mayor of Lorca and president of the Poncemar Foundation, Diego Jos Mateos, visited, this morning, the new facilities that the Poncemar Foundation has, next to the Lorca University Campus and which is planned to be inaugurated and go into operation by the beginning of next year.
The mayor of Lorca congratulated "the PONCEMAR Foundation for the construction of the new building that will shortly house a Training, Research and Assistance Center for the elderly" and explained that "this project is the result of of the collaboration between the Poncemar Foundation, the Lorca City Council, the Autonomous Community through the University Campus Consortium and the University of Murcia, and its purpose is to become a reference center in social and health matters , in which investigative tests can be carried out, as well as offering training in matters such as chronicity and aging ".
Diego Jos Mateos recalled that "this project has been developed on a 5,000 square meter plot that has been urbanized and landscaped, integrating it into the Campus, and on which this new building has been erected, which has a ground floor destined to a day center for the elderly, and an upper floor that will be dedicated to training, research and teaching practices in social and health matters for the elderly ".
Mateo Molina has highlighted that "at last we see this project come true for him from the Poncemar Foundation has put so much effort and for what from the Lorca City Council we have collaborated with the transfer of this land within the Campus of Sciences de la Salud where this new training center and scientific research has been built.
With the aim also of giving a new impulse to the University Campus and that it can be part of the cultural and educational offer of our city " .
The Patronage of the Poncemar Foundation will be responsible for the use of the property for the next fifty years, committing itself to allocating it to the care and training of the elderly and to continue meeting its objectives, among which is to improve the quality of life of the elderly, deepening their care; the specialization of the Campus of Lorca in older people, singling out and making this specialization an asset for this peripheral campus.
In addition to orienting the teachings that are taught (degrees in nursing and human nutrition and dietetics) to care for the elderly, establishing new degrees such as occupational therapy, and integrating the training center n existing professional on campus as an essential part of it; promote intergenerationality, creating an inclusive space for the elderly, social health professionals, students, teachers, researchers; Coordinate the social, professional, political, and economic fabric of the municipality towards greater sensitivity towards older people, recognizing the active role and protagonism that they should have in society.
As well as developing a relationship with other entities of any nature that pursue similar purposes, promoting the activities of the Poncemar Chair of Gerontology at the University of Murcia.
The cost of work and start-up is 1.2 million euros with a grant from the Autonomous Community of 150,000 euros in five years and 50,000 euros from the City of Lorca also in five years.
The Poncemar Chair of Gerontology at the University of Murcia in operation since January 2017 and with its headquarters in the Casa del Capit n, very close to the Center to be built, will serve to promote all these actions, integrating joining the project.
In addition, this Wednesday the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Poncemar Foundation, which is integrated by Diego Jos Mateos Molina, Juan Alc zar Alc , has taken place at this Center, which has just been completed.
