[The mayor of Lorca visits the recently restored Fuente del Caño installed in front of its original position, thus complying with the request for recovery of the residents of the area (23/12/2020)

The Mayor of Lorca, Diego Jos Mateos, together with the Councilor for Local Development of the City of Lorca, Isabel Casalduero, have visited the recently restored Fuente del Caño de Santa Quiteria.

Mateos explained that "this morning we visited the recently restored Fuente de Santa Quiteria, popularly known as Fuente del Caño.

An infrastructure that was located in the place that now occupies Ifelor, and that was removed for the construction of the enclosure without foresee its relocation, being stored in municipal offices ".

The First Mayor recalled that "from the City Council of Lorca, and after a meticulous restoration process, the fountain has been installed in a new location, next to the main access to the Huerto de La Rueda Enclosure, a location It is very close to its initial position, thus continuing this Government team with our firm objective of recovering historical elements of our heritage, as well as of correctly maintaining them ".

"Thanks to the work carried out by the Local Development Council and the Piedra Viva restoration company, it has been possible to recover it, reproducing the original lost stones of the sandstone base with similar characteristics to the original, as well as the assembly of the fountain in its new location and the execution of the waterproofing, sealing and water-repellent treatment of the same ".

Mateos Molina has detailed that "the investment made by the Lorca City Council for the recovery of this patrimonial element has been 18,000 euros and the works have also included the placement of a paving slab and the realization End of all the trenches and replacements of pavements to provide the area with water and electrical service for its operation and, also, the electrical supply wiring and the protection and control panel of the source, in addition to installing the drinking water supply pipes and the water impulse pump ".

The mayor of Lora recalled that "the Fountain of 'El Caño' was part of the network of pipes and fountains that were built between the end of the 18th and mid-19th centuries to bring the waters of Zarzadilla de Totana to Lorca and serve as public water supply to the residents of the Santa Quiteria neighborhood, as well as for watering animals and as a nearby irrigation system with excess water ".
