[IU Lorca denounces long queues at the library doors due to the closure of the study room 24 hours a day (30/12/2020)

Gloria Mart n assured that the coronavirus crisis is no excuse for not making available to Lorca youth "alternative spaces so they can study and prepare for their exams." "In the same way that the PSOE demands the reopening of peripheral health clinics that depend on the autonomous community, it should set an example and keep open the public services that are within its competence," demanded the mayor of IU-Greens The councilor for Izquierda Unida-Verdes in the Lorca City Council, Gloria Mart n, has denounced the long queues that Lorca students have to endure in order to access the public libraries of the city.

The cause is due to the closure of the only 24-hour study room that the local government team of PSOE and C's enabled a year and a half ago in the city, as well as the lack of investments made by Mayor Diego's team Jos Mateos who, when he was in the opposition, "got fed up with demanding municipal infrastructures to facilitate the study of young people." Currently, in the middle of the exam preparation season, students can only use the facilities of the Pilar Barn s library and the one located in the Cultural Center of the City, which operate at regular hours and have a very limited capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Mart n assured that the coronavirus crisis is no excuse for not making available to Lorca youth "alternative spaces so that they can study and prepare for their exams." "In the same way that the PSOE demands the reopening of peripheral health clinics that depend on the autonomous community, it should set an example and keep open the public services that are within its competence," demanded the mayor of IU-Greens.

Gloria Mart n pointed out the "failure in management" that involves closing a 24-hour study room open a little over a year ago and that was sold "with great fanfare", after years of demanding its openness and "countless" electoral promises.

The IU-Verdes councilor asked Mateos to take the example of the mayor of Molina de Segura, from her own party, which has six study rooms open in that municipality, some until 1 in the morning.

"If she can do it, and has the same problems due to COVID-19, this mayor should also have made an effort to fulfill his commitments to the young people of Lorca," concluded Mart n.
