[Fulgencio Gil demands the support of the city council to reject the 40 km High Tension line with which Iberdrola plans to cross the Sierra de Almenara (07/01/2021)

Announces the presentation of a motion in the next plenary session of the Municipal Council to stop this new attempt, as the PP did in 2009, defending the rights of those affected and supporting the alternative route presented by the neighbors The president of the Popular Party of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has emphatically affirmed that the frontal rejection of Iberdrola's attempt to install a High Tension line in the middle of the Sierra de la Almenara.

It is a project that constitutes a profound ecological and social destruction, damaging the entire space between El Hinojar and Purias, damaging both garden areas and recognized environmental value.

We managed to stop this in 2009 because we don't want it for Lorca and we are going to do it again.

This line is unnecessary because it does not respond to the existence of supply requests, since there is already another power line that is responsible for supplying the reference areas, but it would seriously impact our municipal district.

The place where it is intended to be located has already suffered decades ago the punishment of having to endure the construction of the 400-kilovolt Rocamora line, so this new project exacerbates the damage.

The impact of this line would be very strong, especially affecting the residents of Marchena, Aguaderas, Campo L pez and Purias.

Fulgencio Gil has held a working session with the representatives of the affected platform set up for this purpose, who feel seriously concerned and alarmed, who have had to find out what is happening because they have surprised the technicians contracted by Iberdrola marking the sites where they plan to build the high-voltage turrets, something they have done without even having the permission of the owners of the affected parcels.

The victims do not have any information in this regard, neither by Iberdrola, nor by the council itself.

In fact, the current mayor has not even responded to the letter they presented last September, something that we cannot understand.

These works, which have been running since last September, are carried out with drones and technicians on the ground, who mark each location with large crosses, some of them being just 50 meters from the homes of many families.

Many houses will be trapped between the lines of this line and the existing one that connects with Rocamora.

The intervention is being carried out with such obscurantism that there are many affected who still do not know the damage that they are going to do.

We are talking about a high voltage line with a power of 132 kilovolts, which would depart from El Hinojar, crossing Marchena, Aguaderas, Campo López and Purias, affecting the area of ??Villa Real, until taking direction n eagles.

This means that it affects places of high ecological value, which have amply recognized environmental protection, and which are the natural habitat of species such as the black tortoise, wild boar, rabbits, eagle owl, hawk.

A pilgrim, fox and three different types of eagles, among other families of flora and fauna, which define this area as the one with the greatest ecological diversity in the entire region.

We have been with the affected neighbors since 2009, and that will always remain our position.

Our commitment was that the Popular Party would oppose this plan, and that while we were in the local government, it would not be carried out, and we have complied with it.

Now we are going to continue working to prevent such destruction.

We support the route proposed by those affected, which borders the mountains and reduces the impact.
