[The storm 'Hortense' generated yesterday in the municipality of Lorca more than 150 warnings to the emergency and security services due to the strong gusts of wind (23/01/2021)

In addition, the Department of Parks and Gardens launched a reinforcement checkpoint to act against the fall of numerous trees, shrubs and branches throughout the municipality.

Fortunately, there is no regret to personal injury and with regard to material damage, the first assessments indicate that there have been no serious incidents.

The councilors of Emergencies and Parks and Gardens of the Lorca City Council, Isabel Casalduero and Antonio Navarro, have taken stock of the actions carried out due to the strong gusts of wind that occurred during the past day.

Casalduero explained that "the gusts of wind of up to 90 kilometers per hour, generated by the storm 'Hortense', which occurred during yesterday have caused many incidents in our municipality.

Specifically, more than 150 were registered between calls to the Emergency Service 112, Local Police, as well as the rest of municipal services in charge of acting in the event of incidents caused by the wind ".

"Fortunately, so far, we do not have to regret excessively serious personal injuries or material damages despite the number of actions that had to be carried out yesterday through the Municipal Emergency Service, Civil Protection, Firefighters as well as the services Municipal Parks and Gardens, electric service and Limusa ".

The mayor of Emergencies has reported the incidents that occurred yesterday highlighting "those that affected urban structures and elements such as damage to cornices and facade elements, detachment of roofs, breakage of fences and awnings, fall of signage and advertising posters, dragging of garbage containers and damage to electrical and telephone lines ".

"And, also, the damages produced in the trees of the municipality with uprooted trees, fallen branches, which caused cuts in roads and paths and damage to structures such as fences or houses.

Among the events, Isabel Casalduero highlighted "the fall of a woman when crossing a pedestrian crossing, the detachment of part of the roof of the metal structure of the Ramón Arcas Secondary Education Institute, various cuts in secondary roads and the fall of a large tree in the Juan González school ".

For his part, the Councilor for Parks and Gardens has stressed that "due to the orange alert due to strong gusts of wind that rose last day, from the parks and gardens service we assigned a permanent checkpoint to attend to incidents that may occur" .

"With the start-up of this reinforcement service, the fall of a score of trees both in the urban area and in districts was attended, as well as the breaking of a multitude of branches in cypress, pine or eucalyptus trees throughout the municipality." Antonio Navarro highlighted that "throughout the day there were performances in the schools of La Torrecilla and Pérez de Hita; in various copies located in Las Alamedas; in the parks of La Viña and Sancho Dávila; in the roundabout of the Virgen de las Huertas ; In the San Fernando neighborhood or in the Los Peñones Polígono.

While among the actions in trees and shrubs in districts, the one carried out on the Almenara road stands out; the fall of a branch of Eucalyptus next to the church of La Paca or a fallen tree in Marchena ".

Both councilors wanted to highlight and thank the enormous work that the staff of all municipal services carried out yesterday, in a complicated day, to quickly and safely solve all the events that occurred in Lorca, one of the municipalities of the Region most affected by strong winds.
