The treatment plant of La Hoya increased to almost 2.8 million cubic meters its annual contribution to Lorca irrigators (27/05/2016)

The implementation of a system of power generation from biogas released by the sludge used in the purification process allows more than 43,000 euros in annual savings.

Water Councilman in the City of Lorca, Angel Mecca, reported that the industrial water treatment plant (WWTP) located on the site of the Hinojar, in the hamlet of La Hoya has achieved in recent months record figures in as for the flow refined daily, amounting to more than 20,000 m3, while the flow treated annually to nearly 2.8 million m3.

Ruzafa Mecca has explained that the sewage water is transferred by the City and Aguas de Lorca at no cost to the Community of Irrigators of Lorca for use by professionals in the agricultural sector.

We are talking about a perfectly treated water to irrigate and helps to provide irrigators Lorca extraordinary and sustainable contributions in addition to the regular resources at its disposal.

Water Councilman explained that thanks to the launch of a new system of energy production that leverages and biogas generated during the treatment and purification of water through mud, over the years 2014 and 2015 has achieved an increase in production close to 14%, representing in total term more than 43,000 euros annual cost savings, representing almost 30% of the total required by the WWTP.

The evolution of this system has also allowed so far 2016, we have increased performance up to 27%, so the accumulated savings is increasing.

Water Councilman said that, regarding sludge used in this plant, a part is intended for agricultural use and one for composting as a fertilizer and fertilizer element.

Note that this installation EDAR is the larger of the municipality treating wastewater Lorca, La Hoya and Saprelorca Industrial Estate, through a process of two-stage activated sludge (AB).

The excess sludge produced in each stage thickens and stabilizes a process of anaerobic digestion, generating 490,000 Hm3 / year of biogas, which is used by an engine generator for generating a 623,000 Kwh / year, such and as mentioned above.

The digested sludge is then dehydrated by centrifugal and removed by authorized managers for application to agriculture, total production of dehydrated sludge in 2015 were 7,648 tons / year.

These facilities became operational in June 2010 in order to improve the quality of treated water.

The tertiary treatment consists of a coagulation-flocculation chambers, a lamellar settling, filtration sand and water disinfection with ultraviolet light and hypochlorite dosing.

Angel Meca stressed that thanks to the work developed in this silver, have reached 70% in water reuse in the town and we will try to climb to 90%, facing the construction of new collectors in the garden areas currently they lack this service.
