Lorca and Adissan officially twinned on 14 July during the celebration of the festivities of this French town (06/07/2016)

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar Alonso, announced that twinning between Sun City and the French town of Adissan will be held on Thursday, July 14, coinciding with the festivities of this town nestled in the Languedoc -Roussillon.

The mayor recalled that "after years of working together, last June the Full Council of Lorca unanimously approved all the twinning between the two populations political groups. Previously, the municipality of Adissan was adopted in plenary on twinning, as well as the distinction of Honorary Citizen Mayor of Lorca ".

"Adissan has a population of just over 1,000 inhabitants, of which more than 50% of its residents are descendants of Lorca Lorca or who settled in this town during the 1920s The main economic activity is the production Adissan wine and crafts in ceramics, forging or looms, activities that share our town many of which were taken by Spanish emigrants in the twentieth century. Twinning entail delivery of title of Citizen of Honor, a distinction that rests with the Mayor of Lorca.

This will be the sixth twinning of the city of Lorca.

Remember that the municipality is already twinned, within Spain, with Vera and Molins de Rey.

At the international level we are twinned with the Wilaya Aaiiun in Western Sahara and the French Saint-Fons (in the region of Rhone-Alpes) and Mauguio (Languedoc-Roussillon).

Finally, Jodar has stressed that "institutional twinning allow us to establish direct contact with populations closely related to Lorca. Through this gesture so significant we share our history and our traditions and we are committed to develop joint actions to promote coexistence and mutual understanding of both populations between citizens of both places. "
