The Department of Information Society gets cut annual municipal spending on mobile telephony in nearly 80% (22/07/2016)

Also it has significantly reduced spending on fixed telephony and data by more than 40%, thus achieving significant savings and exceeding the forecasts made at the time by the Department.

Councilman Information Society and Contracting in the city of Lorca, Juan Francisco Martínez, highlighted the intense internal work that has been carried out to reduce municipal spending on all communication services of the City Council, including fixed, mobile and the Internet, following the final award of the contract between Telefonica and the city council, which will have resulted in the significant reduction in public spending in this regard.

Councilman Information Society explained that, as a whole, has managed to save in consumer contracts and billing more than 10% in one year and more than 60% over the last four years.

In addition, the introduction of fiber optic technology promoted by the City Council has led to an Internet service faster, safer and cheaper, and realize the interconnectedness of all buildings care, service and public use.

It is a goal achieved thanks to the efforts and the work performed by the municipal area.

This interconnection was one of the most important priorities of the City Council, since, as we have seen, has been a very significant step that contributes, inter alia, to expedite the process they have to carry out municipal services to meet Lorca.

Martinez Carrasco has indicated that thanks to the award of the new contract communications, the City will gain significant improvements such as the increased capacity of navigation and access to internet, expanding at 200 Mb more, from 100 of those currently available to a total of 300 Mb. it also ensures renewal of half of the terminals parks of the City Council, and now has a catalog of great variety and with free internal calls.

It is available to the City Council also an extensive set of tools and applications that will make it simple and efficient management of all services of municipal buildings.

It will also be free of charge maintaining PBXs and 20 tablets to be delivered to the body of local police in order to improve their daily operations and allow access from police vehicles to their database.

Martinez said that the contract has been signed with Telefónica following the call for an open tender in order to economize spending by 40% and which was clearly reflected competition among companies large operators fixed and mobile telephony.

More specifically it has been achieved savings in spending on fixed telephony and internet and mobile telephony for € 200,000 each, ie about € 400,000 in total on what was planned.

Councilman Recruitment has stressed that it has far exceeded what was announced at the time by the Department, achieving savings become more important at the present time and reflect that the City still working every day to minimize costs while maintaining and improving services to address and respond to Lorca citizens.

The regional director of Telefonica in the region of Murcia, Ángel Lloret, noted for his part that "for the company, Lorca is one of the key areas of the region and our commitment is still very strong in digitizing and improving connections and municipal services ".

Telefonica has invested since 2014 around 6.2 million euros on a work plan to deploy fiber optics in Lorca.

Thus, the current FTTH coverage reaches 25,000 homes and premises of the municipality, and reaches more than 65% of the population.

It should also be noted that the town of Lorca 4G coverage already reaches 90% of the population.
