The earthquake, measuring 6.2, was felt in central Italy at 3:36 and the epicenter was located about 10 kilometers southeast of Norcia, in the province of Perugia.
The catastrophe has occurred very near L'Aquila, where there was a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that caused more than 300 deaths and devastated the Abruzzo region and the historic center of L'Aquila in 2009.
The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, has expressed this morning on behalf of all Lorca condolences to the families of those killed and their solidarity and support to all those affected by the disaster that has taken place during this morning in the downtown area from Italy.
Jodar said that "this last night the earth resounded in Italy wreaking havoc and leaving tragic human and material damage. In these difficult times we want to convey to all the Italian people our solidarity and affection to all the families of those affected by this terrible natural disaster . in Lorca it is still alive the memory of the fateful earthquake in May 2011 that devastated the City of the Sun and therefore we are fully aware of the drama that are suffering and nobody can imagine their anguish and grief. "
In this sense, the mayor has said that "in a short period of time we will launch initiatives to help the inhabitants of the affected area, because we have to prove that they are not alone in these difficult times".
The Mayor concluded by stating that "solidarity is the tenderness of the people and therefore we will continue to demonstrate that lorquino people is solidarity and adjoins those most in need today with the Italian people."
