Scaffolds and cover the tower of the Church of Santa Maria for the complete restoration of the temple, whose actions financed by the central government (29/08/2016)

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Development, Mario Garcés, this morning visited the Church of Santa Maria in Lorca and its surroundings, whose recovery and rehabilitation works began last June 21.

The Ministry of Development, through the Directorate General of Architecture, Housing and Land, is responsible for executing these works, the award took place on May 18, and the expected implementation period is twelve months.

The amount of the award is 1,082,798.35 euros, financed entirely by the Ministry within Architectural Rehabilitation Program.

Lorca Mayor stressed that "the temple, built between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, has a Latin cross and is equipped with pillars with Renaissance bolsters, this church is linked to the Catalan Gothic style and it still pillars preserved the vault of the main altar and some pointed arches. "

Other actions in Lorca

With the recovery of the church of Santa Maria, the Ministry will be involved in a total of five performances in Lorca, with a total contribution around 3.7 M €: restoration of the Wall, the Palace of Guevara consolidation, restoration porch of San Antonio and emergency works in the church of San Mateo.

Architectural Rehabilitation Program and 1.5% Cultural

The reclamation works of the Church of Santa Maria and rehabilitation of the environment in Lorca are made under the Rehabilitation Program of Architectural Heritage, which is funding relevant rehabilitation of the Spanish architectural heritage with the own budgets of the Ministry.

In these cases Development finances the works and acts as contracting authority thereof.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Development finances many actions of intervention in the Spanish Historical Heritage by providing 1.5% of public works contracts managed by the Ministry itself.

The 1.5% Cultural program is one of the instruments of the General State Administration to respond to the constitutional mandate that public authorities should ensure the preservation and promote the enrichment of the historical, cultural and artistic heritage of the peoples of Spain and property in it.
