The character of Alfonso X will premiere in the Parade of Saturday an exact replica of the Crown of the Cameos guarded in the Cathedral of Toledo It is the first Spanish royal crown; (11/11/2016)

Has four sapphire crystals and four cameos |

The Councilor for Culture and Festivities of the City of Lorca, Agustín Llamas Gómez, together with Councilor for Economy and Finance, Fulgencio Gil, and President of the San Clemente Federation, Luis Antonio Torres del Alcázar, have presented the crown that will appear the character of Alfonso X in the Parade of the History of Lorca this Saturday and that is one of the great premieres of the Federation of San Clemente for this edition of the fiestas.

The Cameo of the Cameos is an exact replica of the original guarded in the Holy Cathedral Church Primada of Toledo.

It has been made in silver gilded, agate and crystal by the metalister of the House of His Majesty King, Lorca Andrés Barnés Sánchez-Fortún.

The piece shows four neapolitan glyptic cameos with certificates of authenticity. "

The crown of Alfonso X is a piece of extraordinary value, since no previous royal crown is preserved.

It is therefore an exceptional jewel of the Hispanic royal emblems.

The crown has its origin in the treasure of Sancho IV and consists of eight plaques or rectangular links bordered by a simple filleted molding.

Each link is crowned with a castle.

The plaque and castle set form a single casting and overlaid with chisel in silver plated.

The plates have at each end two and three cylinders respectively, traversed by a pinned top at the top.

As the lower part is not riveted, the crown can be opened by each articulation of the plates.

Although it was wanted to find a Byzantine origin for this system of hinge, it is necessary to emphasize that it is the habitual one in the goldsmithing of the time, as we can see in works of eboraria like the open viridas Hispanic of Century XIII.

The form of the castles that finish the plates is composed of three towers and its model begins already century XII, although in some case certain investigators assure that they only belong to the advanced thirteenth century.

The type of opening that opens in the castle, arches and especially rosettes is already diffused in the time of Alonso VIII, as we can see in the stole and knob of San Isidoro de Leon, embroidered by Leonor of Aquitaine.

The trilobed arches that form the arches in the crown are already on the plates of the altar of Seville.

The large central rosette of the castle of the crown clearly adopts a radial form.

In dealing with the possible meaning of the crown, the aspect of the castle is rather a "Gothic cathedral, topped by crenellated towers that give way to an inferior body different from the castle of the contemporary emblem. Clearly a crucifix with the shroud of Christ rolled on the crosswood, unmistakable evocation of a religious building. "

The religious character of the crown and its relation with the sword conserved in the Real Armory, makes think about its destiny to be used in the Coronation like Emperor.

Four crystals, like sapphires, and four cameos, arranged one by one alternately in each of the links, complete the whole.

The four crystals are large and are encapsulated in boxes with peripheral granulated cord, which in turn are attached to the link with two rivets.

Four claws are used to attach the crystal to the capsule.

The crystals that make of polygonal sapphires are of marked volume on the surface of the link.

The cameos are four and are mounted on agate inserts that fix the heads cut in the same material.

These cameos have two types: two on rosette agate and two on sardonic agate.
