The 14 "Storytelling Grandparents" will participate during the next months in five transversal projects with children (16/11/2016)

The Municipal Council has expanded in three its offer of courses and workshops for the group of seniors of our municipal term programmed for the last quarter of the year, from offering 45 courses to 48, benefiting more than 700 seniors

The Councilor for Policy Mayor of the City of Lorca, Fatima Mínguez, visited this morning the 14 seniors participating in the workshop "Grandparents Storytelling" organized this area of ​​municipal management in collaboration with la Caixa and is developed in the Local Development Center of the city in two shifts, Tuesdays from 5 pm to 7 pm and Wednesdays from 10 am to 12 pm.

Fátima Mínguez stated that "the storytelling workshops focused mainly as an informal tool or tool to improve the memory of our elders and is giving play to the realization of various transversal projects that complement and expand the alternatives of active aging and the Social participation of our elders in our community and more specifically with the younger generations.With this we managed to revalue the figure of our elders, the grandparents and the influence they exert on children, so that they are seen as individuals capable of interacting and communicating With other generations through the exercise of reading, storytelling and story. "

The "Storytelling Grandparents' Smiles" project uses the story as a means of communication and relationship, as an instrument to improve the quality of life of both our elders and our children, given their playful and interrelated elements that are inherent in their Own definition.

It is carried out in the special education school Pilar Soubrier, the San José de Calasanz nursery, the pediatric area of ​​the Rafael Méndez Hospital, the Eliosol nursery, APANDIS and the Lorca Early Care Center.

The project started in 2012 and continues to date in almost all of the places listed above.

The "Sharing Stories" project, included in our Program for the Promotion of Reading, is an initiative where the elders become active protagonists of the campaign and where the recipients of the same are the children's collective from various social and children's programs Which has the municipality such as Caixa Proinfancia, Caritas and Red Cross, among others.

The activities that take place are various intergenerational meetings in or near the children's library spaces where our elders and our children will share stories.

This project began in 2014 and has the collaboration of the Network of Municipal Libraries.

The project "Tales for disability" will start this year and it is intended that our elders become agents of social awareness for the inclusiveness and normalization of disability.

The main objective of the objective project is to raise awareness of respect and tolerance towards differences.

At present we are carrying out a new campaign to recruit grandparents storytelling as it is an ambitious project where the recipients are going to be mainly schools located in the urban area of ​​our municipality of Lorca.

In this way, more than 700 people older than our entire Municipal area are benefiting from the wide range of courses in cognitive stimulation, adapted gymnastics, ballroom dancing, painting, dressmaking, crafts, storytelling and new technologies that has been developing this area of ​​work of the City in the extensive network of centers Civic and local social.

The goal is to respond to what the older people want to do in their free time, they are the protagonists.

In this way, we also ensure that the elderly are identified and involved in these courses, contributing to the effectiveness of the elderly program.

The courses are totally free, attending the commitment expressed by this City Council with our elders.

The activities that have a higher demand on the part of the greater lorquinos are those of gerontogimnasia, that gather to more than 440 people, whereas in the ones of artistic character they participate 156, 82 in the ones of new technologies and 33 in the ones of memory .

These workshops are held at the Open Center of San Diego Mayor, social centers of Alfonso X, Los Angeles, Marchena, Paca, Pulgara, Purias, Coy, Zarcilla de Ramos, La Tova, Morata, Ramonete, La Escucha, La Campana , La Hoya, Tercia, Campillo, Torrecilla, La Viña and La Parroquia, as well as in the Francisco Méndez Civic Center of San Cristobal, Level Crossing, and in the sports pavilions of San José and Las Alamedas.
