Lorca's awareness of water saving and improved supply network puts the municipality at 21% below the national average in per capita water consumption (21/11/2016)

Thanks to this modernization process, network leaks have been reduced by 20 points

The Councilor for Water in the City of Lorca, Ángel Meca, together with the Manager of Lorca Water, Francisco Quesada, has reported that the responsible consumption of water carried out by Lorca in the last 20 years, places it as a community aware And respectful of the scarcity of the resource, and proof of this is that with 110 liters per inhabitant per day (lhd), it is positioned with a per capita consumption 21% lower than the national average.

The Edil de Agua has reported that Lorca are being especially respectful of water consumption.

This is a very good news of which we can congratulate all the Lorca, besides being an achievement in which we have to continue to influence.

This is so that the trend of savings and efficiency in this sense increases year after year.

In fact per capita consumption in the period 2010-2015 reflects the following data:

Ángel Meca has stated that progress towards these objectives has been achieved through the development of an intense investment activity aimed, in large part, at minimizing water losses in distribution networks that have been reduced by more than 20 Points, currently being in the technical performance of the networks around 85%.

This better use of resources has allowed, along with actions aimed at rationalizing water uses, that the necessary flows for the supply of the population of Lorca are reduced by more than 25%.

All this in the context of a strong demographic increase, with domestic consumption currently around 110 liters / inhabitant / day, 21% below the national average.

Meca Ruzafa explained that in the last 20 years Lorca society has undergone a profound modernization in all areas related to the integral water cycle.

This transformation has taken place in a complicated context marked, from the point of view of water resources, by the scarcity of resources.

It is worth mentioning that we have suffered from several years of heavy supply restrictions, an increase in the supply population of over 32% (1) and an economic crisis that has had marked effects in all areas of society.

Along with these factors, we must consider the characteristics of the municipality;

An extension of more than 1,600 km2 with a wide dispersion of the population, 35% of the inhabitants are distributed among 39 districts, and as a consequence a great amplitude as far as the facilities to be managed, being shown that in the Today, water supply is provided by more than 1,160 kilometers of water networks.

In this framework has developed its activity Aguas de Lorca.

Since its creation in 1998, the company has set as priority objectives for its management the guarantee of the continuity and quality of the water supplied, the promotion of the rational use of water and the incorporation of new technologies for the management of the extensive hydraulic infrastructures of the municipality .
