The PSOE asks that the abandoned steam locomotive next to the Campus be restored and installed in the roundabout of the Half Moon in San Diego (25/11/2016)

The Socialists denounce the state of total abandonment in which is an old relic used in the agricultural works, a steam locomotive of 1923, located in a lot next to the University Campus, where it has been completely forgotten many years.

The councilor of the Municipal Socialist Group, David Romera, has denounced that "an old relic dedicated to harvesting harvests of the early twentieth century is totally abandoned on a plot located in the vicinity of the University Campus," where it has been forgotten for many years " Without anyone remembering this contraption that constituted a revolution in the countryside and the garden of Lorca.

Romera has argued the reasons of historical and sentimental weight that has this relic so that it is restored and put in value on the part of the City council of Lorca.

"This relic was a real milestone in the harvesting tasks in the field and the garden of Lorca in the twenties and thirties of the twentieth century, which was joined to the electric mowers, which were already known then," he says.

Specifically, it is a steam locomotive dated in 1923, powered by coal and manufactured by the German brand "Lanz".

Its peculiarity is that "they were designed to circulate outside the railway tracks, roads and roads."

Although it resembles a railroad locomotive, "it was actually an artifact used for crop harvesting, which facilitated these harsh tasks to the countrymen of nearly 100 years ago," he adds.

David Romera has argued that both the threshing machine and the steam locomotive "shaped the first modern transformation suffered by the Lorca field and its presence was gradually making disappear the traditional print of the collection in the ages in which man and beasts Were its main protagonists, being more and more habitual the presence in the landscape of long columns of smoke coming from the chimneys of these gadgets of German origin ".

Apparently, this machine "was also used later in several tanning factories of the district of San Cristóbal to move great loads".

The Socialist Edil insists on the "urgent need to restore this locomotive of steam of 1923 and put it in value in an emblematic crossroads of the city".

In fact, he remembers that for many years, it was located at the entrance to Lorca by Apolonia, but today that space is presided over by another sculpture.

For this reason, Romera proposes that the place where this local monument is located is "the roundabout of the Crescent of Avenida de Europa in the neighborhood of San Diego, where the former siphon of the CHS, currently devoid of any ornamental element ".

In this way, "the new landmark would be visible from any point of the Avenue of Europe, becoming a new reference in the urban landscape, recently remodeled by the works of the loan of the EIB, being ideal ornamental lighting, so that the effect of The machine during the night is spectacular in one of the main avenues of the city ".
