The PSOE requests the elaboration of a catalog of trees of the municipality to favor its conservation and protection (28/11/2016)

The government team of the PP are required to comply with the recently approved Monumental Arboreal Heritage Law of the Region of Murcia, which asks the municipalities to update the catalog of trees of all species that are in urban and urbanizable land, to Thus favor their protection and conservation.

The councilor of the Municipal Socialist Group in the City of Lorca, David Romera will ask in the municipal plenary today that the government team of the Popular Party complies with the recently approved Law 14/2016 of Monumental Arboreal Heritage of the Region of Murcia.

As stated in the BORM, in a notice published on November 9th, this legislation arises with the purpose of guaranteeing the protection, conservation, dissemination, promotion, research and enhancement of the monumental arboreal heritage of the Region of Murcia.

This law considers as a monumental tree those groups and botanical specimens that, due to their exceptional characteristics of historical, cultural, scientific and recreational value, constitute a unique arboreal heritage.

In this sense, the socialist councilman asserts that in the municipality of Lorca come together a series of environmental and historical characteristics that have favored the existence of a great diversity of plant species that, due to their exceptional scientific, historical, cultural and social characteristics, Constitute a unique arboreal heritage, and in short, "an environmental and cultural richness of evident public interest, which it is necessary to protect and conserve".

The requirement of the Municipal Socialist Group would serve to guarantee the conservation of this large natural heritage, since much of it is in danger for various reasons.

Felling, vandalism, fires, urban development, public works or bad practices in their care, coupled with natural causes such as pests, diseases or atmospheric agents, are some of the risks that face this municipal tree heritage .

For all this, the Socialist Edil demands compliance with this legislation "to stop and prevent the degradation and disappearance of the extensive Lorca tree heritage."

This first step in the cataloging of monumental lorquino trees must go hand in hand with a long list of actions, based on the "obligation of continuous individualized assistance" and the implementation of the necessary specialized care "to ensure their survival, and the Good conservation of their environment ".

Romera also recalled that there is a catalog of monumental trees that includes the General Municipal Plan of Lorca (PGOU), whose updating and complementation also considers convenient.
