Embroidery of Lorca

Embroidery is an important tourist attraction of the city and Lorca feels identified with this cultural element.

The embroidery in gold and silks is the essential component of the Biblical Parades of Lorca, the most beloved and participative party of the city, with important social and cultural functions.

Although the embroidery takes on real meaning during the celebration of the parades, its materialization is fruit of the direct implication of many lorquinos who throughout the year strive to realize this common goal.

The art of Lorca embroidery is an artistic expression and a recognized symbol of Lorca's cultural identity.

The embroidery in gold and silks of the Spanish erudite tradition has given fame to this city for more than 150 years when it was incorporated like peculiar decorative technique in the clothes and badges of the groups that participated in the parades.

These embroideries are the result of a specialized collective work involving the artistic directors, authors of the designs and those responsible for the direction of the works, and the embroiderers, on whom the painstaking process of execution is entrusted.

The Art of Embroidery in the Lorca Biblical-Passion Parades is currently a candidate to be named Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
