The PSOE claims a special plan of actions to enhance the social, economic and commercial life of Barrio (18/01/2017)

The Socialists will propose in the next plenary a battery of initiatives with which they demand the PP a "urgent turn" in the municipal policy with respect to the districts of San Cristóbal and San Diego "to combat the existent inequalities, to make Barrio an attractive zone for The residence of the Lorca and therefore, stop the continued expulsion of the younger population "

The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, David Romera this morning presented the content of a motion with which Lorca socialists will propose in the next plenary the development of a special plan to enhance the social, economic and commercial life of San Cristóbal .

David Romera has called for an immediate turn in the direction of the municipal policies that have been applied in the last years with respect to the District of San Cristóbal that "curb" the "continuous expulsion" of people, especially the younger population.

For this, from the Socialist Group propose initiatives to make this area habitable again, he says "is being hard punished and marginalized in terms of equipment and urban improvements."

The Socialist mayor has lamented the "continuous dismantling" that the districts of San Cristóbal and San Diego have suffered in the last years in the matter of public services.

The closure of the Local Police barracks or the most recent emergency service in San Diego has only opened a "serious gap" in public services with respect to the rest of the city that "undoubtedly, Settlement of the younger population ".

Also the location of the University Campus is currently helping the social and economic revival of this part of the city, in this case because of the "suffocation" that the municipal and autonomous governments maintain for the development of the University of Lorca.

In terms of works, David Romera recalled that San Cristóbal and San Diego was "especially damaged" after the earthquakes that devastated Lorca in 2011. That is why it qualifies as "logical as necessary" to be undergoing regeneration works The EIB loan.

However, despite this urban transformation "not only are not they solving historical problems, but they are also causing new and worrying damages".

Among other problems, the Socialist mayor has again denounced the worrying "situation of instability" in the high areas of San Cristóbal neighborhood for which "the need to sanitize and protect the slopes of these heads against the danger of rock collapses On housing, "as has recently occurred in areas such as Calvario Viejo, Casas Blancas or La Palma.

To do this, they propose as one of the agreements to allocate the losses resulting from projects integrated in the EIB loan "to take advantage of this financing and to undertake works of sanitation and protection of these slopes."

For the solution of the numerous damages that are arising from the recent works, from the PSOE will also propose the creation of a Labor and Valuation Commission, made up of municipal technicians and a representation of neighbors, to help detect and correct the deficiencies Which have appeared after the urban regeneration of these areas.

One of the most important deficits that is leaving the renovation of most of the neighborhood's roads is the lack of scuppers to alleviate water runoff in case of rain.

For this, they also propose improvements in the drainage system to avoid that the "streets remain authentic torrenteras of water" when it rains.

The Socialist Group is also concerned about the need to implement social intervention policies in this area, already characterized by its cultural diversity, where people from different backgrounds live together.

David Romera considers "convenient and necessary not only to invest in paving stones" for which he proposes the development of "policies aimed at integration and intercultural knowledge".

As for initiatives for the recovery of the economic and commercial life of the neighborhood, Romera calls for action to restore San Cristobal "traditional trade" that historically characterized this area of the city.

To this end, it calls for the implementation of a Commercial Reactivation Plan "to encourage the development of new businesses and to make known to Lorca citizens with their promotion of commerce in the neighborhood."

In matters of heritage, the Socialist mayor has once again demanded actions for the restoration and enhancement of heritage and cultural elements that will enhance the tourist attraction of the neighborhood.

Among others, they demand the restoration of the historic Fountain of the Star, as well as the conditioning of its nearest urban environment.

In short, from the PSOE claim to the Popular Party "a plan of action that serves as a shock to the current drift of the neighborhood of San Cristobal."

Romera regrets that due to the urban deficits, coupled with the lack of facilities in the area of public services, have contributed to the abandonment and forgetting of this area by the PP.

To this end, they insist on the need for the City Council of Lorca to be involved and develop cross-cutting policies, with the work of all councils of the consistory "to combat existing inequalities in the neighborhood and make this an attractive area for the residence of the Lorquinos ".
