IU-V demands for Lorca the urgent creation of a social housing stock owned by the banks (10/02/2017)

The councilor of IU-V in the City of Lorca, Adoración Peñas, this morning has advanced its intention to raise in the next municipal plenary a political initiative that would aim to have all provisions of a social nature that includes the Regional Housing Law, Including those related to energy poverty and basic supplies, are a reality in the municipality of Lorca.

For IU-V it is necessary that the local administrations contribute to the extent of their possibilities to reverse the current reality in this matter and that housing is increasingly a right and less and less a business.

Article 47 of the Constitution mandates the public authorities to promote the conditions for the realization of the right to adequate housing, such as Article 33 of the Constitution. The same Basic Law that establishes that the property must first fulfill a social function.

One of the most socially detestable situations in this area, says the councilor of IU-V, is the existence of a large bag of empty houses in the hands of banks, while thousands of families have been evicted or have no Possibility of access to decent housing.

Therefore, he says, the first measure we want to raise in this area is the one that affects the real estate of banks.

According to Peñas, to the injustice involved in the evictions of thousands of families, the social irresponsibility of banks is added.
