The Joint Commission reinforces its commitment to families affected by earthquakes and extends aid for rental and repair of equipment (17/02/2017)

261,000 euros more have been authorized in rental subsidies and the total amount authorized has been increased to 80.5 million euros

99.86 percent of grants have been resolved

The Mixed Commission, formed by Autonomous Community, the Government Delegation in the Region of Murcia and the City of Lorca, has agreed to strengthen the commitment of the three administrations with the families affected by the earthquakes of May 2011 in Lorca and extend the period Granting and extension of aid for the renting and repair of earthquake-damaged equipment.

To this end, the Central Government will be asked to sign a new agreement to renew the current one, in force until May, in order to continue providing the necessary support to the affected people until the end of the recovery process from the city.

The Minister of Development and Infrastructures, Pedro Rivera, the Government delegate in the Region of Murcia, Antonio Sánchez-Solís, and the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, informed today of this agreement on the occasion of the forty-second meeting of the Joint Commission .

In addition, at this meeting, 32 cases were resolved and 261,397 euros of assistance was granted to meet the neighbors' rental needs during the process of rebuilding their homes damaged by the 2011 earthquakes.

Most of the approved aids were for the granting of rent extensions and second extensions and its objective is to guarantee to the neighbors of Lorca that they are having more difficulties in rebuilding their houses have aids for the rent for a longer time.

So far the Joint Commission has resolved 99.86 per cent of the overall dossiers and has approved aid amounting to € 80.5 million, of which 84 per cent of the total has already been paid to the beneficiaries, some 67.9 million.

The rest of the authorized amount corresponds to rental and reconstruction aids, which will become effective once the neighbors present the justification of receipts and the finished work.

In overall terms, more than 16,000 files have been resolved, which have meant approving 32,764,530 million euros for the repair of houses and another 23,591,463 million for reconstruction, 16,009,827 million for rent;

7,775,055 euros for the repair of common elements in communities of owners and 341,009 euros for the replacement of fixtures.

The Joint Commission was created by Royal Decree-Law 6/2011 on the adoption of measures to repair the damage caused in Lorca by the seismic movements of May 2011.

Its function is to assess and quantify the aid granted to individuals, by virtue of the applications submitted for rental, reconstruction, rehabilitation or repair of homes that constitute the habitual residence, as well as for the replacement of basic necessities.
