The City Council intends to communicate the desalination plants so that the Lorca irrigators have the necessary resources to carry out their crops and maintain the jobs (21/02/2017)

These are resources that would help to a great extent to solve the situations of water stress generated by the periodic episodes of drought that are registered in our region.

The Councilor for Water in the City of Lorca, Angel Mecca, has informed that he will urge the Ministry of Agriculture (MAPAMA) in the next plenary session to study the appropriate actions in order to enable the interconnection of the desalination plants in the Basin Of the Segura with the marshes and existing infrastructures, through exchanges of water, through the construction of networks of pipes and pipes.

Meca Ruzafa explained that the Ministry of Agriculture will also be asked to study the implementation of a Plan to Promote Agrarian Production with Desalinated Water, which will establish a sustainable price for desalinated water so that farmers can buy water Desalted to a price that allows to maintain the competitiveness of its productions.

The Edil de Agua has pointed out that the history of Lorca is the history of water, the chronicle of its relationship with this element and its constant attempts to overcome the water deficit, improving its management and abounding in its efficiency.

Much of its progress has been cemented for centuries, in the correct use of available flows, and in its efficient and fair distribution.

The agro-food sector of our region is the most powerful in Spain and is the most powerful and dynamic engine of the regional economy.

However, we are suffering from a serious shortage of water, which, given the possibilities offered by the outstanding advances in engineering, is not welcome in the 21st century.

We must make clear that water is a good of general interest, a tool of vertebration and a question of state, which must always unite, fleeing clashes between Spaniards that lead to nothing.

Ángel Mecca has stated that we have to take advantage of all the water resources within our reach, as the Region is practically a desert due to the low rainfall.

To this end we will work tirelessly to carry out all the possible interconnections between the desalination plants and the existing marshes, because we can not waste these water resources.

We have to be able to optimize and to put to 100% of its operation all the desaladoras that already are constructed and that can benefit to the region of Lorca.

We are talking about a production potential that would reach 300 Hm3, which would work as a good complement to the unrenounceable flows that to date has been contributing the Tajo-Segura Transfer.
