The House of the Captain will be the seat of the Poncemar Chair of Gerontology that has the objective of promoting the training and socio-health research of older people in Lorca (06/03/2017)

It is aimed at students, health professionals, the elderly and citizens in general.

It aims to contribute to an educational and assistance project unit, while complementing the future Center for Training and Research that is projected within the University Campus of Lorca

The Mayor of Lorca and President of the Poncemar Foundation, Francisco Jódar, the Minister of Education and Universities of the Region of Murcia, María Isabel Sánchez-Mora, and the Rector of the University of Murcia, José Orihuela, presented this morning the Chair Poncemar de Gerontología, linked to the University Campus of Lorca, which aims to boost and enhance the assistance, training and socio-health research of older people in our city.

The Chair complements and enhances the future Center for Training and Research that is projected within the University Campus, and enriches it through the intervention in the branches of Nutrition, Nursing, Vocational Training, Public Health and Chronicity.

It should be noted that the establishment and operation of it is subject to the Framework Agreement of April 26, 2016 signed by the University Campus Consortium, University of Murcia, Lorca City Council and Poncemar Foundation.

This Chair is addressed to students, professionals from the socio-health field, senior citizens and citizens in general.

It intends to contribute to a unit of educational and care project, of orientation of the Campus of Lorca to a specialization and singularization in social-sanitary matter of older people in the city.

The Chair has its own headquarters and is located in the University Campus of Lorca, in the denominated House of the Captain.

This property of municipal property is ceded by the City of Lorca to the Poncemar Foundation for its destination to the Chair of Gerontology.

The House of the Captain will be open to the public from Monday to Friday, assisted by staff of the Chair, aiming to become a space for dissemination and training in social and sanitary matters of older people.

It has a meeting room, a study room with bibliographical background and subscription to specialized magazines of the sector, auditorium and offices for staff.

Thanks to this Chair, participation and attendance at congresses, workshops, workshops or meetings will be encouraged to improve the scientific knowledge on the subject, create contacts that lead to the resolution and resolution of new challenges and establish a culture of aging.

In addition, it seeks to promote greater knowledge on the part of Murcia society in general, and students in particular, on gerontology, a science that studies the process of aging in all its different spheres: biological, psychological and social.

The aim of the chair is to get a better characterization of the needs of the elderly, their caregivers and their families.

It should be noted that the first activities to be carried out will be the 1st Conference on Home Care and Nutrition in Elderly that will be held on March 30 and will last for 8 hours and the 1st Conference on Efficient Care for the Elderly in Health Services Which will take place on 5 April.

In both activities will participate social workers, physiotherapists, professors of the University of Murcia, psychologists and doctors, among other experts.
