The City Council will open in the next few days the Gardens of the Palace of Guevara for the use and enjoyment of all Lorca, turning this enclave into a social space (05/06/2017)

These gardens will have an established schedule and will close their doors at night, so that all citizens can make use of this emblematic place daily during the day.

In addition, there is the likelihood of establishing a catering service, which will be provided in the same gardens, and which will mean the dynamization of this area

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has announced that the City of Lorca will proceed, imminently, the opening of the Gardens of the Palace of Guevara for the use and enjoyment of all Lorca.

Fulgencio Gil said that "these gardens will have an established schedule and will close their doors at night, so that all Lorca can enjoy and make use daily of this emblematic place, located in the town of Lorca, during the day. In addition, we are studying the establishment of a catering service, which would be provided in the same gardens, and which will cause a small impact on the image of the same but which will mean the dynamization of this area, since citizens can choose this beautiful space to take a Appetizer or a coffee in the company of family or friends ".

The Mayor of Lorca added that "from the City Council we are also studying to open the communication of the streets that surround around the Church of San Mateo and the Palace of Guevara. The creation of these new streets will be a great value in all this environment that Envelops the Palace of Guevara and will give Lorca the opportunity to stroll and enjoy charming places hitherto little visited, improving the urban layout of the city center.

Gil emphasized that "with the opening of this framework of special relevance for our city, which offers a very central and unique beauty scenario, we intend to energize various sectors of Lorca, such as economic, social and commercial, among others In addition, cultural activities will also be developed, as was done last September with the realization of a cycle of concerts.

The Palacio de Guevara is the most significant private building of the whole civil baroque of the Region of Murcia.

It was built by Don Juan de Guevara and took place between 1691 and 1705. The importance of this building from the historical and artistic point of view earned him the declaration of Cultural Interest (BIC) in 1984. The gardens, located in the Rear of the Palace, have 2,500 square meters of surface and in them can be found orange, lemon and aromatic plants, among other varieties of shrubs and vegetation.

At present, it has become one of the most emblematic and representative buildings of the outstanding historical past of the city of Lorca, especially after its restoration after the earthquakes of 2011, which is about to end with the recovery of everything the furniture.
