Fulgencio Gil affirms that the Federation of Women Organizations of Lorca (FOML) is an example of defending the rights of women, and applauds their cultural, participative, social and coexistence.
The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, along with Equality Councilor in the Municipal Consistory, Juan Francisco Martínez, and the President of the Federation of Women Organizations of Lorca (FOML), Pilar Fernandez, has announced that the City Council will invest 600,000 Euros to enable and put into operation the House of Equality
The Mayor has said that Lorca need this great infrastructure, which will become the ideal tool to care for and help victims of gender violence.
This action is already in the bidding phase, and we expect that by the end of July we can award and start the works at the end of the summer.
If no relevant contingencies arise, we believe that during the first quarter of 2018 we could have the Equality House running, which will offer almost 700 m2 for the attention and service of Lorca.
Fulgencio Gil has also anticipated that the City Council, in agreement with the FOML, will launch the Equality Sector Council as an organ of participation and transparency where all sectors of Lorca society linked to the subject will be represented.
We have activated the mechanisms necessary for its implementation and we are in a position to announce that 2017 will be the year of the beginning of its activity.
The Mayor has said that Lorca has the fortune of having a wide range of women's groups of notable work and important incidence in the day to day of the municipality.
The women's associations are present in the different districts and neighborhoods, defending all the neighbors and encouraging each population nucleus.
Lorca's women's groups are synonymous with culture, encounters, training, society and coexistence, as the activities they develop stand out for their breadth and variety.
The FOML is an example of defending the rights of women.
The First Edil has stressed that inequality is one of the most serious problems currently suffering our society.
Although it has improved in many things during the last years, we must aspire to a single objective that can not be waived: total equality between the sexes.
We will not settle for less.
Women deserve equal pay, have the same opportunities to get a job and be treated with absolute dignity.
But there is a fundamental issue in terms of equality policies, one of the great hurdles that our world continues to suffer: gender-based violence.
Fulgencio Gil has described as "disgusting" each and every one of the attacks against the victims of gender violence, and has recalled with special indignation the murder that occurred in Molina de Segura just a few days ago.
As a society, we have to work to ensure that the number of murdered by gender violence is 0.
We therefore welcome the increase in the General State Budgets for 2017 of the amount allocated to the Government Delegation for Gender Violence.
Specifically the item increases by 10%, adding 6.5 million euros to reach 31.7 million euros in the fight against violence.
In addition, another 157 million will be allocated through the Ministry of the Interior, 45 million from Justice, 25 from Employment.
In total, the Government of Spain will allocate in 2017 more than 266 million euros to the set of items for the fight against gender violence, financing information and awareness campaigns, support programs, training, etc.
