95% of the buildings affected by the earthquakes have already completed their rehabilitation or are in their final stretch.
The new building located at the beginning of Juan Carlos I Avenue goes from having 4 floors to 8, supposes a total of 14 houses, conserving commercial premises and incorporating new systems of thermal insulation and energy sustainability.
The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, together with the Director General of Planning, Architecture and Housing of the CARM, Laura Sandoval, and the Councilor for Urbanism, Satur Martínez, visited this morning the reconstruction of a building located in The Avenida Juan Carlos I, denominated Building Avenue 6, that had to be demolished as a consequence of the serious damages produced by the earthquakes of 2011 in its internal structure.
Fulgencio Gil emphasized that with the conclusion of works of this building, more than 95% of the buildings affected by the 2011 earthquake (24,000 homes, 800 commercial premises and 75 buildings of cultural interest) are rehabilitated or undergoing rehabilitation.
It is worth remembering that 60,000 people had to leave their homes in haste.
The number of inhabited houses demolished after the earthquakes reached 1,152, of which 920 have already been concluded and another 315 are in advanced phase of reconstruction.
The First Edil has pointed out that the City Council, in order to get the reconstruction process going beyond phases, has had to provide tools of great utility in the administrative field, as has been the case with the Law of Substitution.
It is an innovative legal mechanism that has unlocked the reconstruction of more than 80 buildings
It should be noted that the old building Avenida 6 had a total of 8 houses distributed on 5 floors, as well as 2 commercial premises located on the ground floor, and storage rooms.
The new building whose reconstruction has already culminated, has a greater capacity, with 8 floors above ground, more attic and basement that houses a warehouse and storage rooms.
It also preserves the two premises that sheltered its ground floor, and incorporates 2 offices on the first floor.
As for the housing, there are 14 that have been built.
According to the project presented, the total constructed area has been almost 2,600 m2, with a material execution budget of almost one million euros.
As in all reconstructions, the new building that has emerged is much better than the one that was demolished, since it is more accessible, efficient, modern and safe.
The Mayor has stressed that from the City Council we have supported the reconstruction of this building at all times, working with the neighbors to solve how many problems may have arisen throughout the process.
But now works are finished and that is the best news for everyone.
The completion of the works in this building supposes the achievement of a moment of hope for all.
The joint effort has borne fruit and today the homes we have longed to raise again are being built.
But they are not the same houses damaged by earthquakes, but are new floors in a new, more modern building with more features and benefits and much safer.
It is a clear example of what has meant the reconstruction process for Lorca, a city that has risen, has become more secure, more modern and will continue to develop thanks to the fact that among all we are realizing projects of scale that For decades we had been claiming the Lorca.
Fulgencio Gil emphasized that people make a new Lorca, in which hundreds of streets are being improved, turning the rubble into hope and illusion, creating new and ample green areas, gaining space to enjoy our city walking, recovering the monuments of Our heritage legacy and building the Lorca of all.
