The Municipal Groups of PSOE and Izquierda Unida in the City of Lorca today showed their repulsion by the refusal of the local Government team of the Popular Party to place in the Consistory the rainbow flag on the occasion of the celebration of Pride Day.
The municipal opposition regrets the "lack of democratic convictions of the PP" and its "lack of commitment and sensitivity" with the demands of the LGTBIQ (lesbian, gay, transsexual, bisexual, intersex and queer) collective in the municipality, unlike other municipalities of The Region, which do see them in public institutions.
"If they are unable to join a symbolic act, how can we expect them to develop and implement policies against all discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and family diversity," they explained.
For PSOE and IU-Greens the PP lost yesterday another opportunity to commit to eradicating in our society the LGTBfobia in all its expressions, demonstrating that it lives on the back of society and that it despises sexual and gender diversity.
The origin of this emblem comes from the decade of the seventies and was used for the first time in the American continent to claim the 'LGBT Pride Day' of San Francisco.
Since then, it has continued to be used throughout the world as a sign of the liberties and rights demanded by homosexual, bisexual and transgender people, such as the right to respect, marriage, adoption and, ultimately, equality.
At present, there are a total of 79 countries that still condemn, with discrimination, jail and the death penalty, same-sex relationships.
