The Civil Guard neutralizes five ammonite cartridges and eleven pyrotechnic detonators (12/08/2017)

The owner of a house found the artifacts in a closet of the building when she was cleaning

In case of finding artefacts, it is recommended to the citizens a simple protocol: DO NOT TOUCH, DO NOT MOVE, SIGNALIZE and NOTICE to 062

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has seized and neutralized five cartridges of explosive material (ammonite) and eleven pyrotechnic detonators found inside a house in the Lorca district of La Paca by the owner of the property.

The action began when Benemérita was alerted that the owner of a house in La Paca-Lorca had found explosive material while doing cleaning work on one of the rooms of the building that he did not use.

Quickly, a Civil Guard security patrol of the Civil Guard moved to the scene, verified the discovery of cartridges of explosive material and pyrotechnic detonators and activated the Group of Specialists in Deactivation of Explosives (GEDEX) to withdraw with the corresponding security measures.

Shortly afterwards, the TEDAX agents of the Benemérita arrived at the housing of the incident and took charge of the artifacts, which have been deactivated using a controlled load in an isolated area and with the corresponding security measures.

These were very old material usually used in quarries and were in poor condition.

This type of material is extremely dangerous and highly unstable, so any tampering or punching could lead to its involuntary activation.

Citizen collaboration

In these situations, the collaboration of the citizens is key to locate the artifacts, and thus avoid their manipulation and subsequent accident, so that they can finally be guarded, deactivated and destroyed with the necessary security measures.

Safety recommendations

In the event of an abandoned object that may be suspected of being an explosive, incendiary or pyrotechnic device, the Civil Guard recommends that the public follow the following indications:

Give the real consideration to any object with the appearance of explosive device that is strange to the environment in which it is.

Do not touch or move the object.

Call the emergency telephone number: 062, which the Civil Guard has available 24 hours a day, so that they can be neutralized and safely destroyed by specialists in the field.

If possible, stay in the vicinity of the place until the arrival of the Forces and Security Corps.

Otherwise, mark the area or provide the coordinates through a program or application GPS location, very common today in some mobile phones.

That is, DO NOT TOUCH, DO NOT MOVE, SIGNALIZE and NOTICE to 062

Any kind of manipulation could lead to fatal consequences.

Explosive devices as decorative objects

The Civil Guard has solved cases in which citizens who locate old explosive devices move them to their homes, as a decorative object, which carries a high risk both for themselves and their families and neighbors, so it is recommended to continue The security protocol previously set forth.
