IU criticizes the exclusion of the Local Police of Lorca training courses on animal abuse and neglect (04/09/2017)

Gloria Martín, regrets that the course on legislation and action in cases of animal abuse, organized by the regional administration, has not counted on the professionals of the third most important municipality of the Region and yes with 26 agents from Murcia, Mazarrón, Águilas, San Javier, Molina de Segura and Alcantarilla

The councilor of the United Left-Greens in Lorca, Gloria Martín, has asked why Lorca has been excluded from the training that has been given in the Region to Local Police personnel in matters of animal abuse and neglect and that they have received 26 agents of Murcia, Mazarrón, Aguilas, San Javier, Molina de Segura and Alcantarilla.

The course on legislation and action in cases of animal abuse, organized by the School of Training and Innovation of Public Administration (Efiap), attached to the Directorate General of Public Function and Quality of Services of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration , and framed in the training program of Local Police of the Community, "has not counted on the professionals of the third most important municipality of the Region", explained Martín.

For this reason, Martín has demanded the incorporation of agents of the Local Police of Lorca and of public employees of the City Council to the courses that are programmed on legislation and protocols of animal protection, including the reform of the Criminal Code that hardened the sanctions to the conducts in those that are mistreated to the animals and that typified the abandonment like crime.

"It is important that social awareness in the defense of animals and against mistreatment is making its way in the administrations through the training of public employees," said the mayor of IU-Verdes, to provide the Local Police with a high qualification in the field of animal protection, should be a strategic line of work.

"In recent years, the number of animal-related security forces has increased. The absence of protocols or lack of knowledge about lack of training makes it difficult to find solutions to the problems raised in these cases," Martín explained.

For the councilor of IU-Greens, it is an "error" to downplay animal abuse, because "it is punished both in criminal and administrative ways and because it can allow the identification or prevention of other violent crimes."
