The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, together with the president of the Casino Society of Lorca, Rafael Ruiz, have signed a collaboration agreement by which both entities may have the preferential use of the dependencies of the Artistic and Literary Casino for the use and enjoyment of lorquinos and tourists.

Fulgencio Gil said that "thanks to the generosity of the partners and through the signing of this agreement we add a new cultural space to those already existing in the city, being also a relevant place especially for the building in question, as well as its excellent location.With the recovery of this historic monument we are still betting on the revitalization of the historic center of Lorca, so it is a matter of taking one more step to fill the precious historical buildings that we have in our city ​​and make Lorca and visitors can enjoy them in all its splendor, filling them with culture and life.

The Mayor of Lorca has indicated that "the Artistic and Literary Casino has numerous dependencies that have a great general interest. In its medium-sized rooms may be held courses and workshops of the Popular University, local associations for cultural or social or cultural services that may emerge in the future.In addition, the Ballroom, which is the most emblematic space of the Casino, can host multiple activities such as concerts or auditions of soloists or chamber or small format orchestras, unique exhibitions and events or cultural and social events, presentations of books, readings and literary contests, among others, making the culture overflow in this building so emblematic.

Fulgencio Gil emphasized that "the object of the Agreement is to establish the rules for the shared use of the Lorca Artistic and Literary Casino building and its dependencies between the Town Hall and the entity. It will be rehabilitated in accordance with the Master Plan, The work will begin with the consolidation, reconstruction, refurbishment and start-up works, which will have an expected execution period of 2 years. assignment of preferential use of dependencies of the Casino to the City Council will have a validity of 50 years. "

The First Edil explained that "in the coming weeks, once the agreement has been signed, the meeting of the Master Plan will be held, which will approve the readjustment of the final budget of the works." The Artistic and Literary Casino of Lorca, located in Pío XII street, in the heart of the city, was founded in 1845, chaining a battery of improvement works that lasted until about 1916, the culmination date of the Hall of dance.
