IU-V maintains that the industrial desert advances in Lorca to the passivity of the local and regional PP (05/10/2017)

Pedro Sosa, a spokesman for the Municipal Group of IU-Verdes, appeared this morning before the media to show how, without being aware of it, the municipality of Lorca is losing in a sustained way and for years the traditional props of the secondary sector of the local economy.

Last week, fifty workers from the tanning company "Tenería lorquina" went to the streets as a result of a business closure that, to date, has only concerned the trade union centrals, without any public intermediation in that conflict.

This closure occurs when there are latent two labor conflicts that affect several hundred workers in Lorca;

on the one hand the one developed in the company "La Comarca", in which its representatives continue to negotiate with the business side to unfreeze a salary that has not moved for five years,

on the other hand the workers of a public service like the ITV continue with their partial stops in defense of the public character of its activity.

If we add that just a month ago was also unconvoked the strike announced by LIMUSA workers, we see how in a very short time have accumulated a number of collective labor disputes.

In the opinion of the mayor of IU-V it rains on wet.

Those who have been ruling Lorca and the autonomous community in the last decades have not moved an esparto to defend the permanence of the secondary economy in the municipality.

Several thousand workers employed the tanning sector in Lorca, and today there are only a few hundred left.

The textile is almost gone with the implications it has had on female employment.

Multinationals like the cement company closed a few years ago leaving hundreds of workers in the street.

In the settlement of textiles, tanning and the disappearance of the cement factory, in addition to other factors, the determination of the political power by the soil and housing speculation and the derivation of many resources generated in the industry to inflate a bubble that exploded creating an unprecedented crisis, which has been loaded behind the backs of those who had less responsibility in it: the workers.

Sosa says that Lorca has had very bad luck with the rulers he has suffered in the context of this spiral of decades, and that it is an obligation for his municipal group to warn the current mayor of the locality of the need to be more aware of the dynamics of employment, of their loss and of their quality.

In this sense advances that will take for its debate in Plenary an initiative to boost the industry in Lorca.
