200 volunteers from different youth collectives will participate in a collection of food and hygiene products for the most needy on December 1 and 2 in seven local supermarkets (28/11/2017)

The Councilor for Youth of the City of Lorca, Agustín Llamas, the president of the Council of Youth, Ricardo Trapero, and the director of the Food Bank of Segura, Bonifacio Fernández, presented this morning an initiative for the collection of food to be used to the Food Bank.

This is a campaign that will take place on December 1 and 2 and falls within a large national collection called "Cuento Contigo", promoted by the Federation of Food Banks of Spain, and which this year celebrates its 5th edition.

Llamas pointed out that "Lorca is a city of solidarity and will demonstrate once again through this initiative." Young people will be the main protagonists of it, as the youth groups have committed themselves to the initiative as it happened in previous editions and They will dedicate their leisure time to collect food for the needy, specifically through the Youth Council of Lorca, the City of the Sun Scout Group, AJPB, Young Blues, Spanish Youth Organization (OJE), AJC Paso Morado, Youth Socialists, AJ Javier Cervantes de La Hoya, Collective of Young Muslims, Association of Ghanaians of Lorca, Intercultural Cazalla, Custom Lorca and Club de Rugby de Lorca, SACOJE and Civil Protection, meanwhile, will be responsible for logistical issues.

"In total we expect the participation of 200 volunteers who can be identified by the Food Bank logo, who will be in the collaborating supermarkets to collect donations of non-perishable food that Lorca want to donate. The supermarkets that collaborate in this edition are the Mercadona of the Alameda de la Constitución, the Day of the Season, Consum of Jerónimo Sante Fe, Superdumbo, Eroski San Diego, Aldi and Carrefour, said the mayor.

Those who wish to make their contributions may do so on the 1st and 2nd of December.

Specifically on Friday 1 will be collected from 17 to 21 hours, while Saturday 2 will be from 10 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 9 pm.

The young volunteers will collect the donations and organize them, while SACOJE and Civil Protection personnel will take care of the transportation and storage.

Food delivery will be made to local entities such as El Buen Camino, Guardería San José de Calasanz, Association of Ghanaians of Lorca and other entities established in the municipality that are proposed by collaborating associations and that work for the families most in need.

Llamas has announced that "from the City of Lorca we encourage Lorca to participate for another year in the campaign" Cuento Contigo ", thus demonstrating the values ​​of solidarity and empathy with disadvantaged groups. previous edition have been collected around 12,000 kg of food, hygiene products and basic needs, so "Cuento Contigo" is already a tool of great importance to collect local solidarity.
