The Ombudsman agrees with the PSOE and requires the Regional Government to take concrete measures to reduce waiting lists in Lorca (05/12/2017)

Marisol Sánchez denounces that the budgets in Health for Lorca "are born poor" and are a "handout" for the serious deficiencies that the area III of health presents.

The Socialists warn that the PP does not have among its priorities to guarantee a public health in equality for all the citizens and assure that the sanitary system will not improve in the Region until the Popular Party is not outside the Government

The deputy spokesman of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Marisol Sánchez, along with the Senator of the PSOE for the Region of Murcia, Juan Luis Soto Burillo have advanced the conclusions to which the Ombudsman has come after the complaint raised by the Socialists for the "serious asymmetry" in the distribution of health resources and the "worrying indicators" that leave Lorca "in the tail" of healthcare in the Region of Murcia.

The Socialists recall that they requested the protection of the Ombudsman after exhausting all possible political avenues against a Popular Party "insensitive" to the shortcomings of area III and that has been promising years for improvements "that still do not arrive".

They assure that, since 2012, there are numerous announcements of shock plans to combat waiting lists that have not been made.

After requesting information to the Murcian Health Service, the Ombudsman "gives the reason" to the Socialists and ask the Regional Government to send more information on what concrete measures they plan to implement to reduce delays in those consultations in which it exceeds the maximum period of access "legally established".

In this sense, the report offered by the Ombudsman confirms the "continuous complaints" that the PSOE has made in recent years about the "shameful" waiting lists in area III.

So much so, that recognizes that exceeds the maximum period legally established for first outpatient consultations in gynecology (55.24 days), ophthalmology (88.74 days), traumatology (108.3 days), dermatology (81.3 days) , general surgery (92.4 days) urology (132.8 days) and digestive (132.6).

In addition, Soto Burillo has highlighted a fact that is evident in this report and that, for the Socialists is "alarming."

The Murcia Health Service recognizes that as of September 30, 59% of the total number of patients without a date assigned for the first specialist consultation in the entire Region of Murcia "are concentrated" in area III.

A fact that reveals the "stagnation" of the waiting lists due to the "deficit" of personal and material means.

It is enough to appreciate, he assures, the imbalance in the distribution of public resources in Health.

Marisol Sánchez has once again compared area III of health, in which Rafael Méndez is located, and area VII, of the Reina Sofía Hospital.

These are two areas with "similar" populations but that "do not present the same number of resources".

As an example, area III of health has 410 nurses, one for every 425 inhabitants, while the Reina Sofía 491, one for every 402 inhabitants.

Far is the average of regional ratios of one per 302, for which Lorca would need 167 professionals to match it.

In this sense, the announcement of the Ministry to hire 60 new professionals to open the new operating rooms, and of which "a good part" will be nurses, "will not serve" to compensate the deficit presented by area III in terms of professionals of nursing.

The same occurs in structural resources, such as the number of operating rooms or the number of beds enabled.

"Both have taken, he says, to build the new operating rooms at Rafael Méndez" that "are already insufficient" and the proof is that, while Lorca now has 9 operating rooms, Reina Sofía has 12, three more.

According to Sánchez Jódar, these data confirm the "asymmetry" between health areas and that, he assures, they are due to the fact that the Regional Government is not guaranteeing an equal distribution among territories.

This imbalance is "palpable" in comparison with other areas of smaller scope.

For example, the area of Cieza, with 54,838 inhabitants, has the same number of dermatologists (3) as the area of Lorca, which serves 174,418 users.

These and other data confirming the unfair treatment of the regional government to area III health will be collected in a new report that will be sent to the Ombudsman for his knowledge.

Budgets in Health for Lorca "are born poor" and are a "handout" for the serious deficiencies that presents the area III of health

Marisol Sanchez has announced that they will submit amendments to the regional budgets of the SMS to understand that those proposed by the PP "are born poor" and are "a handout" for the serious shortcomings of area III of health.

They assure that the "slight reduction" that may have existed in health waiting times responds to the increase in spending on private concerts and not to the public health commitment.

Sánchez Jódar assures that the PP prefers to "pull portfolio" and increase spending on concerts with private companies that better finance public health.

The statistics of the portal of transparency of the CARM confirm that, in 2016, the area III of health is in which more is spent to arrange medical services with private companies, the majority also, outside Lorca: 52.01 euros per inhabitant .

For all this, Sánchez Jódar concludes that health in Lorca and the Region "will only improve with the departure of the Popular Party of the Regional Government."
