zquierda Unida has held an extraordinary Assembly at the organization's premises on Tello Street in the San Cristóbal neighborhood with the assistance of a large number of militants, whose objective was to renew the local leadership of Izquierda Unida according to the agreements and statutes approved in the Federal Assembly of the year 2016, with an eye already on the preparation of the 2019 electoral process.
In the Assembly, until then local coordinator Pedro Sosa expressed his decision not to stand for re-election, and on the other hand both Dori Peñas and Pepe Murcia presented each candidature, obtaining as a result 49% and 51%, respectively, resulting chosen Pepe Murcia by little difference.
During the presentation of their respective programs coincidences were evidenced, betting both to establish contacts and, where appropriate, agreements with related political forces (as agreed by the federal management bodies), to oust the Partido Popular from the mayor's office in the next elections, as well as gathering support among the social forces to make possible the change of political cycle that Izquierda Unida considers essential after three consecutive corporate periods of the Popular Party.
However, in favor of Pepe Murcia told his long institutional experience and the great knowledge he has of the organization, which he said, "we must unite now more than ever, strengthen it, multiply forces, make it much more visible, get more affiliation , and penetrate into the social fabric with potential and arguments for change ".
From there, in the coming days, Pepe Gª Murcia will have to form his team and finalize his work plan, which will have an impact, in his own words, on activating all available resources, including the potential represented by militancy.
The election of Pepe Murcia, absolutely must be related to the future candidacy for the elections of 19, but on the contrary, separate it completely, while Garcia Murcia will be dedicated to the actual coordination without particular electoral objectives.
Finally, it is worth highlighting the good climate that prevailed among militancy throughout the meeting, in which there were numerous expressions of opinions, statements and positions, in coinciding cases, but in other disagreements, and in which, above all, the militancy expressed encouragement, and the candidates, Dori Peñas and Pepe Murcia, clear and express will of mutual collaboration as they have always been for years.
