Opened the new Young Space M13 of Lorca that includes a youth hostel with 38 seats (15/12/2017)

The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Adela Martínez-Cachá, accompanied by the Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, and the Director General of the Youth Institute (Injuve), Javier Dorado, opened the Young Space M13, a new equipment of youth resources that includes a shelter of 38 places.

Martínez-Cachá explained that "this new infrastructure is a great step forward in the provision of youth facilities in the municipality of Lorca while enhancing services to youth."

This center is located in a rehabilitated space next to the university campus of the city and takes its name as a souvenir and tribute to the old military infantry barracks Mallorca XIII, which occupied that site.

The Youth Space has an area of 850 square meters, of which 600 square meters are allocated to multipurpose room, playroom, study room, meeting room, office-kitchen, as well as themed bedrooms with youth audiovisual products such as Big Bang Theory, South Park or Game of Thrones.

The headquarters of the Council of Youth of Lorca and Intercultural Cazalla have also been installed, which are the two groups that manage the center.

It also houses an Information Point of the Youth Council.

The works have been carried out in coordination with the municipal youth technicians and the members of the Intercultural Cazalla Association and the Lorca Youth Council so that the spaces respond to the needs of the youth fabric of Lorca.

Both associations develop projects focused on youth associations and actions to promote European youth mobility through the Eramus + program, which in 2017 has a budget of more than 180,000 euros.

The interior design project for Espacio M13 for the study and training room, called 'Tropico Utopico', has been highlighted by the magazine 'Murcia Visual' as a commitment to cutting-edge design.

The center hosts other activities such as training plan, living library, escape room, language workshops, board games, prevention talks, workshops for unemployed youth, courses on gender diversity and awareness of LGTBI groups, world cooking workshop and film forum.

"In this way, a project designed by and for the young people of Lorca that will have a self-managed building for them to carry out all kinds of activities, becomes reality", concluded Martínez-Cachá.
