The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Adela Martínez-Cachá, accompanied by the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, and the General Director of Injuve, Javier Dorado, have inaugurated the Young Space M13, a new youth resource facility that includes a hostel of 34 places.

Martínez-Cachá explained that "this new infrastructure represents a great advance in youth facilities in the municipality of Lorca and at the same time enhances youth services in the vicinity of the university campus of Lorca."

This new center of youth resources is located in a rehabilitated space next to the university campus of the city and takes its name as a souvenir and homage to the old military barracks of Mallorca XIII infantry that was located in that space.

The mayor stressed that "the center has an area of 850m2 of which 600 are useful for youth service, with a multipurpose room, playroom, study room, meeting room, office-kitchen, plus bedrooms themed with youth audiovisual products such as Big Bang Theory, South Park or Game of Thrones, it is also the headquarters of the Council of Youth of Lorca and Intercultural Cazalla, groups that co-manage the center, as well as an Information Point of the Youth Council. "

During the visit, the Councilor for Youth, Agustín Llamas, showed the evolution of the works and the equipment that has been incorporated with an investment by the Consistory of 30,000 euros during the last annuities.

These have been addressed in coordination with youth technicians and members of the Cazalla Intercultural Association and the Lorca Youth Council so that the spaces respond to the needs of the youth fabric of Lorca, as these groups develop part of their activity and its annual programs at the center.

Both entities, with their presidents at the head, Ricardo Trapero in the case of the Council and Manuel Semitiel as representative of Cazalla Intercultural, showed present and future projects, focused the first in the youth associations and the second in areas such as European mobility youth through the Eramus + program, which in 2017 had a budget of more than 180,000 financed by the INJUVE, the EVS European Volunteering Service-, its assistance for cultural diversity, etc.

Among other issues of the M13 it should be noted that the project of interior decoration for the study and training room called 'Tropic Utopian' has been collected by the journal Murcia Visual betting on avant-garde designs as reflected in the lines to follow for the opening of new youth spaces.

In addition, the center hosts other activities such as the training plan, living library, escape room, English, Italian and basic Spanish workshops, board games, prevention talks, workshops for unemployed young people on empowerment and employability, for the development of skills of young people or on gender diversity and sensitization of LGTBI collectives, world cuisines or film forum.

The M13 will be the test space for youth participation, self-management by the young people of Lorca and to which they can attend individually, collectives or youth associations formally constituted for everything they raise.

"In this way, a project designed by and for the young people of Lorca that will have a self-managed building for them to carry out all kinds of activities, becomes reality", concluded Martínez-Cachá.
