The Bartolomé Pérez Casas Choir will recover 5 musical works through an Extraordinary Concert of the chapel masters of the Collegiate Church of San Patricio (19/12/2017)

The Councilman of Culture of the City of Lorca, Agustín Llamas, along with the director of the Bartolomé Pérez Casas Choir, Antonio Manzanera, have presented the Extraordinary Concert "Masters of the Collegiate Chapel of St. Patrick", which will be held on Thursday December 21 at 20.30 in this temple.

Llamas recalled that "the Coral Bartolomé Pérez Casas has bet since its creation in 1981 to rescue for its interpretation the works of authors born in Lorca or who had musical relationship with the city, as they have done during these years with composers like Juan Antonio Gómez Navarro, Pedro José Jiménez Puertas or Pérez Casas himself, in the same way that they have re-published works by masters who carried out part of their musical career in the Ciudad del Sol and, more specifically, in San Patricio.The extraordinary concert that is going to be celebrated It aims to make Lorca known through a concert works of chapel masters of the collegiate of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, saving from oblivion both the most valuable works and their creators, specifically, in this concert will be drawn to the light five works of four authors who wrote sacred compositions for the cult to Saint Patrick ".

In chronological order, the piece "On earth and in abysses", Christmas carol for choir, soloists, strings and continuo, written in the seventeenth century by Thomas Joseph Sáez García, native of Alicante and maestro de capilla between 1731 and 1766, will be performed. The next work in antiquity will be "Beatus Vir", cantata divided into eight movements written for choir, soloists and orchestra and that the Catalan José Samaranch and Ramoneda composed in 1776. Two pieces created by Mariano Lleó and Pascual, born in 1789 will be performed and that he was a chapel master between 1836 and 1852;

the works are "Adjuvanos", motete for continuo and chorus, and the carol de calenda for strings, continuo and chorus, "En Belén de Juda".

Finally, the piece "Pange lingua", motete for orchestra and choir, written by the last teacher of the Saint Patrick's chapel, Pedro María de Egea y García, a native of Cehegín and who was an organist and teacher from 1852 until after the eighties of the nineteenth century.

The recovery of the works responds to an arduous work of investigation in the Municipal Archive and also in the archive of the collegiate thanks to the copies made by the Gayón brothers of several dozen works that were donated by this family to the Collegiate in the years seventy of the twentieth century, since almost all the original funds of the San Patricio Musical Archive disappeared in the thirties of the twentieth century.

The concert will have the participation of the Bartolomé Pérez Casas Choir and Orchestra, while the soloists will be the sopranos Carmen Iglesias and Miriam Silva, the countertenor Pedro Pérez and the tenor Juan Antonio Martín Armas.

Llamas has encouraged music lovers to "come to this historic concert with which the Choir and Orchestra Bartolomé Pérez Casas return to Lorca an important part of its cultural legacy, enriching us thanks to the knowledge of works that centuries ago sounded in the same collegiate church of St. Patrick as now they will.
