The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, has denounced the state of "lack of protection" and "abandonment" felt by the residents of the districts of Lorca as a result of serious shortages of personnel in matters of citizen security in Lorca.
As an example, he has referred to what happened a few days ago in Zarcilla de Ramos when a driver, apparently in a drunken state, hit the facade of the house of a neighbor of 78 years of age, causing an anxiety attack on this citizen and substantial material damage.
Despite the fact that the incident took place at about 1:30 p.m. and that immediate notice was given to both the Civil Guard and the Local Police, until 4:15 p.m. no two agents of the Benemérita appeared to take charge of the report.
By then, the author of the crash had already gone home without being tested for alcohol, leaving the vehicle injured at the scene of the accident without the affected neighbor knew who was responsible for the damage and the withdrawal of tourism.
The mayor of IU-Greens regretted that conflicts of jurisdiction between Local Police and Civil Guard, prevent promptly attend the notices of the neighbors.
In this specific case, both bodies ignored the event, at first, claiming that it was outside its territorial scope.
After two hours of discussion between them, a response was finally offered to those affected.
For Martin, facts like this show that, in practice, the Civil Guard barracks in Zarcilla de Ramos "is closed".
It is the only infrastructure that, in terms of citizen security, is located in the north of the municipality.
In that sense, the mayor of IU has reproached the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, the promises of the PP, when he was in the Opposition, to "provide more human and material resources" to the Benemérita and Local Police, to meet the needs of such an extensive area.
The councilor of IU-Greens has ensured that it is an "essential" service to ensure the safety of the inhabitants of the high districts and has lamented the "permanent punishment" that is inflicted on the residents of rural areas through the reduction systematics of public services.
In this regard he recalled the closing of the barracks of the Local Police of the neighboring deputation of La Paca, shortly after the PP came to the Mayor.
Martin also referred to the investment of 700,000 euros, in 2014, for the construction of a barracks of the Local Police of new plant in Zarcilla de Ramos that should have a crew of ten agents, a corporal and a sergeant "that shine by his absence "
The same happens in the similar infrastructures that were built in La Hoya, Purias, Almendricos and Ramonete with an overall investment of 1.2 million euros.
For this reason, Gloria Martin has also demanded the PP its commitment to allocate 41% of the staff of the Local Police to the districts of Lorca, which translates around the 60 agents currently.
