The good work rate in Juan Carlos I allows the avenue to be available before the deadline, celebrate the Cavalcade of Kings and not interfere in the Christmas commercial campaign (21/12/2017)

During the day today, the two layers of sound-absorbing asphalt are being applied, after which the road will be reopened in the direction of Santa Clara Avenue.

More than 6.3 kilometers of supply network, sanitation and communications pipelines have already been installed.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, together with the General Director of the General Planning, Architecture and Housing, of the CARM, Laura Sandoval, and the Councilor of Works, Ángel Meca, supervised this morning the progress of the works of urban renovation that are being executed in the downtown zone of the city, and whose main objective is the integral improvement of the most important artery of the municipality, as is the case of Avenida Juan Carlos I, including the remodeling and modernization of different streets and adjacent squares, with a total investment of more than 5 million euros.

The Mayor has said that we are talking about a performance widely demanded by Lorca society, and in particular, by traders and residents of the area, who are demonstrating a degree of understanding that I want to emphasize today.

This Municipal Executive has had the responsibility to carry out an action of the magnitude that this represents.

All Lorca were aware that the growth that our city has recorded required having a central area in conditions.

The reality is that Avenida Juan Carlos I had become obsolete, and presented major problems that ended up turning it into a poorly lit street, narrow sidewalks, noisy and uncomfortable, suppressing the commercial profile and livability that must offer both Lorca as to those who visit us.

Fulgencio Gil has indicated that a great city needs great streets, and thanks to these works Juan Carlos I will be it.

These works are a challenge of extraordinary importance, since it is not only aesthetically improving this street and its adjacent, but to incorporate new buried services and replace deteriorated channeling, which requires an effort in terms of coordination that has been developing in a positive way during the months that we have been running.

In fact, the work has accelerated to the maximum, surpassing the forecasts set months ago.

It is worth remembering that in September a specific plan was put on the table with the objective of implementing a work rhythm that would allow us to have Juan Carlos I clear face to the Christmas dates, in which there is a greater influx to this area, especially to the shops located there.

The result has been positive and the street is practically diaphanous.

The First Edil explained that the works related to the installation of all projected services are being executed, to which will be added the renovation by Iberdrola of a medium voltage line that will run through the pipes already planned and included in the work.

To date, the location of almost 6 cm granite flooring has been achieved, and curb pavements have been finished with curb, proceeding throughout the day to today, according to plan, to apply the two layers of sound-absorbing asphalt with which this avenue will be equipped.

It will be open to traffic in the exit direction (towards Santa Clara Avenue) along today.

Fulgencio Gil has detailed that the sidewalks of Avda. Juan Carlos I have been widened, following the established principle so that this street has a more commercial and comfortable profile.

Now they have a width of between 4 and 5 meters.

The road has a width of 7 m, to serve the 2 lanes of double direction with which the Avenue, which will have round at the intersections of the same with the Alameda Fajardo El Bravo and Santa Clara Avenue, which it will help to improve traffic flow and its regulation, facilitating changes of direction.

The streets José Espinosa Pomares, Plaza de Carruajes, Alameda de Menchirón, Journalist López Barnés and Floridablanca, with the corresponding services of supply, sanitation and rainwater networks fully executed, are already finished and in service for all citizens.

Work has also begun on Serrallo street.

Once the Christmas dates have passed, as agreed with the merchants of the avenue, the work will be completed, incorporating furniture, urban, auctions in communications networks and locating the new trees and vegetation.

As more representative data in quantities of the works executed to date we must highlight the following:

Water supply networks: 3.5 kilometers of pipes.

Sanitation network: 1.5 kilometers of pipes.

Network of transport and evacuation of rainwater: 1.34 km.

Underground containers: 9 RSU and 9 Selective, corresponding to 3 blocks of the 11 provided.

Charging point for electric vehicles.

Public lighting: 85% of the planned installations completed, with LED technology, allowing to reduce consumption by half and providing latest generation projectors and operational control for the events that run along the Avenue.

Electricity networks executed at 70%.

Telephone and communications networks executed at 80% of the projected.

Irrigation and Gardening: 2.4 km of polyethylene pipe.
