The PSOE denounces that the emergency services of Lorca are "borderline" in the middle of the flu epidemic (05/01/2018)

Marisol Sánchez denounces that the saturation of the emergency services, both Sutullena and Rafael Méndez Hospital has worsened due to the shameful decision of the Regional Government to close, in full cold wave, the health center Lorca-La Viña on schedule of afternoons

The deputy spokesman of the PSOE, Marisol Sánchez Jódar has denounced the saturation of the emergency services of the municipality of Lorca, which are "on the edge" in full cold wave and in the midst of the current flu epidemic.

Marisol Sánchez has warned of the increase in the number of people treated by the emergency services in the municipality of between 20 and 30% on average, both in the Sutullena health center and in the Rafael Méndez de Lorca General Hospital.

In recent days, in addition, there have been peaks of attention of more than 300 people served in a single day, when the usual ranges between 150 and 200 people, insists "everything for the same staff".

It ensures that the healthcare pressure that becomes "unbearable" for health professionals who "do more than they can despite the few means they have."

However, he denounces that the response of the Murcian Health Service to "reinforce" area III and, specifically, Rafael Méndez in the face of the cold wave and the flu epidemic has been "shameful".

In fact, he points out that only one nurse and one assistant have been assigned for each shift, which is clearly "insufficient" since, remember, area III and the Lorca hospital have the "sad honor" of heading the national statistics of health areas with "fewer number of nurses per inhabitant".

Another of the "shameful measures" adopted by the SMS and the regional government of the PP has been "to close in the heat of flu and cold wave" the "only" health center that, in Lorca, was kept open during afternoons.

Sánchez Jódar has referred to the closure of the health center of La Viña, closed from last December 22 until January 8, in its afternoon schedule.

He assures that this closure has meant that all the patients of the center can only pass consultation during the morning, which, necessarily, has contributed to saturate the urgencies, both of Sutullena and Rafael Méndez.

Ensures that the current situation "only solved with a real increase in the staff of health personnel for health area III."

In this sense, has once again demanded the Murcia Health Service first, to comply with their word and hire once the "eternally committed" 70 professionals for Rafael Méndez who "still do not arrive."

And secondly, that they equate personal and technical areas with area III of health with respect to the rest of health areas of the Region.

Remember that the shortage of personnel suffered by Rafael Méndez is "structural", and has been translated in recent years in a deterioration in the quality of care.

These deficiencies are aggravated in the case of the emergency service of Rafael Méndez, where there is only one nurse for 14 patients, far from the recommendation of the WHO, of 1 nurse for every 4 users.
