IU asks to study a "participatory" modification of the ordinances that affect a hospitality in crisis in Lorca (23/01/2018)

Gloria Martín, councilor of this training, asked that the sensitivity that the City can show to the demands of the sector, is rewarded with the commitment to a responsible and innovative business model that is characterized by quality in service and employment

Izquierda Unida Verdes de Lorca will present a question to the next Plenary to inquire about the request of the Professional Association of Hotel Owners of Lorca, Hostelor, to amend the municipal ordinances that affect the development of the sector.

The councilor of IU-Greens, Gloria Martin, explained that her political training has held a meeting with the management of the group, in which she told him that the municipal regulations on noise and vibration and the placement of terraces "make it difficult to compliance "and involves a" handicap ", among other issues, for the strengthening of the historic center.

Therefore, the innkeepers have initiated contacts with the Municipal Corporation in order to express their concerns and propose some changes in the aforementioned ordinances so that they "flexibilize" their demands by combining "the rational and restrained practice" of this business activity with the rights of neighbors, paying special attention to the accessibility of public spaces.

Martín recalled that, since 2015, there is concern in the sector for the limitations imposed by the municipal ordinance approved in January of that year and that had a moratorium of seven months so that the hotel owners could adapt their business that regulates the terraces in public squares , parks and streets of the city.

"It is clear that the regulation does not give satisfaction to the hostelry and that makes it difficult for it to become an engine for the promotion of tourism and commercial activity in the municipality," said the mayor, who was in favor of "studying" a new modification that reconciles the interests of the sector, of the municipal administration and of the citizen groups that require that the proliferation of terraces be controlled.

In this regard, recognized that the 2015 ordinance had the participation of neighborhood associations, catering and people with reduced mobility, who made contributions to the text and, for that reason, was approved unanimously in the Municipal Plenary.

However, "sometimes reality comes up against the regulations, even if it is relatively recent approval, and a new adaptation is necessary," he said.

Therefore, IU-Green is in favor of returning to study this issue, mainly addressing the crisis that runs through the hospitality sector in the municipality and that makes it difficult for Lorca to be a true regional reference in this field.

In any case, it requests that the possible modifications have the necessary "participation and transparency", and that they harmonize the needs of all the actors involved.

In this regard, he encouraged the PP government team to "increase efforts" to generate new jobs, to boost local economic activity and offer enough attractions to revive tourism.

Gloria Martin also asked that the sensitivity that the City can show to the demands of the sector, is rewarded with the commitment to a responsible and innovative business model that is characterized by quality "in service and employment."
